#242 – I trust you

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Still going with the Emily Carr paintings. They are so lovely.

Sketch-A-Thon 2

1) The Sketch-A-Thon will run until the 14th of June. If you absolutely want a commission from me and can’t pay me until the 30th or something, mail me and we can work something out.

2) I have mailed off the first batch of pdf comics for every donator. I have just noticed that paypal didn’t send me emails for a handful of donators that have come in so it seems I have missed a few of you. I’ll be sending those off shortly once I see who I have and haven’t mailed to. Mail me if you’ve donated and haven’t received them within 12 hours.

Donate for original art. Keep ALM going.

* Each and every donation: The new diary strip (Attention: spoilers! So let me know if you don’t want this) and the mini comic pdf Sex and the Suburbs (These will be emailed to you, make sure your email address is included in your paypal donation form)
* $25+ dollars: A6 hand-inked sketch b&w or simply coloured with Protip markers.
* $50+ dollars: A6 hand-inked, hand-painted watercolour.
* $100+ dollars: A5 hand-inked, hand-painted watercolour.

The highest donor will, on top of their sketch/painting, receive:

* An original hand-inked/painted page from the comic (available comics can be seen in the store)
* The original journal comic done for this Sketch-A-Thon (4 pages, hand inked and coloured) Includes spoilers!
* A signed original copy of the minicomic Sex and the Suburbs (nsfw). There are only 10 left and I’m keeping all but one.

Please, please, please be sure to include in the form what you would like a sketch of.

Since this sort of thing tends to take time you will be mailed an order number and you can check your order status here.

Here’s some examples of work done for the previous Sketch-A-Thon.

  2. John K. Says:

This argument has always always amazed me, and that it works makes my ears bleed, but once again this comic just gives so much feeling. amazing. thank you!

  3. India Says:

    i love johan’s flesh-coloured underpants!

    Bork.

  6. Varmgang Says:

    Wow.

This has been my favorite comic (notice the absence of the web- prefix) for a good while.

You never cease to amaze me with your art, and using these paintings for background works amazingly well. You have a good eye for splitting the images to fit with the background.. Kind of Kinokofried :-) (Yep, it’s a verb now..)

    Good job!

  7. Jabbie Says:

I work at my University’s sexual health center, and the number of people who STILL, in their 20s, decide that sex without any sort of birth control is a good idea BOGGLES MY MIND…

I have a sinking feeling that I know where this is going :(

  8. theshortcake Says:

wow, it must run in the family? remember when Maria told Yumi what type of bc she and Anders used???
ps that argument is soooo laaaaame…>:(

  9. phraedus Says:

amazing graphics. I love how you have built up Tina.

  10. ??? Says:

What is the scene below the second Dr McNinja crossover sketch? I can’t figure it out…

  11. Kate Says:

    >,<
this comic makes me o-so-grateful for my boyfriend….

  12. Chloe Says:

A great comic, once again. Thank you for the brillance.

  13. Random. Says:

Question, is every guy in this strip an asshole?

  14. Danny Says:

    Random.:

Not every guy, but almost everyone.

  15. Mariamus Says:

    Kaptajn Haddock!!! woot!

  16. Kim Says:

    Hmm. I’m from Australia myself.
Stumbled onto this comic through Questionable Content.

I gotta say honey, I sat up for hours to read the whole thing from start to finish. I could just not get away.
If it was possible to be given large amounts of money and/or candies for brillience…well, you should get it is all I’m saying.

    Mucho’s good job *thumbs up*

  17. Grumzz Says:

wow, I loooove how you used different perspectives to fit the comic perfectly into the background painting..
also, I’ve been reading your comic for a few months now, and the story line is really making me going to your page 3 times a day to see if you got a new comic up yet. which is useless cos I have you on twitter :P

keep up the fucking good work ;)

  18. posthippyprincess Says:

    Random:

You think Johan doesn’t feel shitty about that by now?
Why do you think he protected Tina so fiercely when he thought she was still pregnant and was so furious at Anders… saw his own mistakes there.

The thing is we all fuck up and afterwards we try to create a story of ourselves where it all makes sense somehow.
It’s just easier to project the anger you should feel for yourself on someone else.

I don’t think Johan is an asshole. I think in this strip he’s a horny teenager who doesn’t really know what he’s getting into. And yeah he pressures Tina (I still think by mistake) and unfortunately poor Tina always responds so well to pressure.

  19. Stef Gaines Says:

Random: Nah, Johan is a kid who kind of does, kind of doesn’t learn from his mistakes.
Björn is a really good friend who just happens to be a loser, but at least he’s aware of it.
I’m not sure about Anders. He does a lot of changing in this comic. Some good, some bad. I’m really interested in seeing where he goes.

  20. feycreature Says:

Every time I read that “don’t you trust me” line I want to respond “Depends. Can you retract your sperm?”

  21. april agustin Says:

Pretty scary how the characters and situations in this comic seem so real but I find myself so hooked, I keep coming back for updates even on non-comic days. I love how Tina’s posture in the last panel makes her look extra vulnerable. Brilliant, as always :)

  22. Tine. Says:

LOVING!! the Tintin drawing, and of course today’s comic as well. Johan is my favourite character!

  23. Ala?ne Says:

Great idea this, i dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Can’t wait to see what you write about. Go for it!
