#236 – A little something called power

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I thought I’d remind everyone here that lately I have been posting the comic a heck of a lot earlier on Twitter. Just as a special little treat. :) I think I’ll use Twitter for other goodies as well. It feels so good to be giving back to everyone after being absent for so long!

See you Monday!

  1. Lauren Says:

Well, Anders is officially a prat.
I thought the “I COULD BUY YOU” thing was just something he shouted in a fit of frustration, but clearly he thinks he’s hot stuff. I almost hope he gets stuck in lockup. Let Johan go be with Maria…she doesn’t need Anders’ BS.

  2. Allison Says:

I have become a super major fan of Johan. Especially since the whole Tina-pregnancy thing started.

  3. Caleb Says:

Heh, that prison guard looks familiar…

  4. anne Says:

Rene, is that you? Since when do you have to work at a prison, eh?
& I do agree, Anders is a prat.

  5. SocialDeath Says:

Woosh i like this series! Just power read the whole thing today! Blarg

  6. Andy Says:

Anders is definitely a dick, but I still like him. Which means good writing.

  7. Steve Says:

Damn, Johan is calm and collected…….. there goes most possibility of a well-deserved shanking

  8. Aiken Says:

What little sympathy I’d built up for Anders is dwindling again.

  9. CMC Says:

Aw, is that Rene-the-cop/police station worker? :D

  10. Dain Says:

I also missed the comments Rene! I like this color style.
I hope Anders don’t miss the birth of his child!!

  11. Jonboy Says:

Anders has, for the moment, precisely what he deserves. Now just cynically waiting for the deus ex mechana to deliever him to the birthing room.

  12. Cerebelle Says:

I love how you’ve depicted Anders’s character–like others have said, he’s majorly flawed, but I still like him. He’s just an ignorant fop who grew up with all sorts of privilege, and a night in jail (along with a lot of the other things that’s been going on lately) should help pull him out of his own ass a little more. There are so many other characters in this comic that are like this too: they each have their own faults that can be so frustrating, but we know that they’re just trying to do what they think is right. That’s called being human, and it’s one of the things that keeps me coming back to this site.

And I love your cameo here, Rene! Can’t wait for more Twitter goodies!

  13. Ashley Says:

Awww c’mon Anders..damn. I used to dislike Johan for being such a loose cannon but now he’s starting to grow on me. Hell, he was the only one to care about Tina and he still cares for her even after the lies. This comic has my flip-flopping all over the globe!

  14. ferko Says:

twitter is extremly fricking annoying, cant you just post it here instead of multiple places. =P

  15. Rene Engström Says:

@ferko I do post it here! I just have it up a little earlier for Twitter followers if I happen to have it done earlier. I like interacting with readers that way.

  16. Christi Says:

I definitely, most absolutely believe he deserves this, now. No more doubt in my mind about that.
You’re right Lauren, let Johan, if he’s released in time, go be with his sister. Or even Bjorn. Not this douche.

Good Lord, Anders is so self important but he’s worth less than the lint in my pocket.

  17. theshortcake Says:

lol, rene is your KEEPER! heeeeheehee!

  18. Daisy Says:

Ah I’m so glad you’re updating again! This is the only comic I can read and read again whenever! I don’t want the story to end :(

  19. Kate Says:

hahaha anderrrrrrrrrs…. way to be a d-bag. xD

  20. soapey Says:

ahaha nice, anders deserves that XD
you make me want to get a twitter lol

  21. Randall Drew Says:

And…here’s the next page! (I didn’t have to wait very long! :P ) Anders once again…total douche. Love his character so friggin’ much. Excellent page!

  22. Amy Says:

Anders cracks me up on this page!

  23. Your Maugham Says:

I LOLed, for real and no jokes.

  24. sherbet Says:

I dunno. To me Anders is being less of an a-hole here. It’s almost like he’s not even talking to Johan, rather trying to convince *himself* he’s not powerless.

  25. Marluxia Kyoshu Says:

‘I think I’ll use Twitter for other goodies as well.’

Can you please post any extra goodies here as well? Not everyone uses Twitter…

  26. Rene Engström Says:

@Marluxia Kyoshu Well if it’s repostable I will probably put anything like larger drawings in my Live Journal. Which I will link to from here.

  27. Cradelikz Says:

I must admit that, emmhi by the way, that i’ve became a big fan of A?M in the recent days.

I had a long, long day haha and all I did was get up to date with the comic (started to read it mmm like around monday, and yet I haven’t sleep that much hehe), and I can say it’s a great one!!

The gorgeus look, the always same paced story, the flashbacks!
    Tsss?

My, my I don’t know what to say hahaha.
But I will keep looking forward to this story.

    My best wishes. :B

PD: I believe that in this one, I could just kill Anders, truly XD
    Good weekend for you :)

  28. too funny Says:

This story sounds just like my ex-husbands life. He got a girl preggers when she was 18, ditched her, got with me (I couldn’t have kids), screwed around on me. I left him, moved on to bigger and better things. Found out a month after I ditched him he got two other girls preggers, by mistake! Guess he had something to prove….Great read by the way – I like the art, this is one hell of a story – keep it comin man.

  29. dalas Says:

It would be too much to deal with if I followed you on Twitter though. You’re posting a lot.

  30. AMC Says:

    DAMN, Anders is a prick.
I LOVE his expressions, especially in the first and 5th panel.

  31. Corvigryph Says:

Hmmmm wow. Anders reminds me of Light Yagami from Death Note. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_Yagami full of himself, yet idealistic and never the less, popular with the girls.

    I’ll never understand you girls.
Anyway, I hope Johan gets to be with his sister while she gives birth! He’s such a sweet brother :3

Oh and you ma’am win the web comic world. Just thought I’d say so :3

  32. Ellers Says:

I don’t really think Anders is so much an elitist prick as that he’s trying to seem to have some power in front of Johan. Johan has kicked his ass several times…now he finally has something that he (thinks) he’s better at. And then that’s taken away too…

I think he’s about to hit bottom and show how vulnerable he really is after all that’s happened. But I’m prepared for being proved wrong ;-P

  33. Bekka Says:

I seriously wanna backhand anders >_> I’m not even kidding xD He’s SO unlikeable right now >_>

  34. Boumama Says:

    Karmic…

  35. Devon Says:

haha, I love the cliched “I’ve got power” speech which ends up being flipped around on himself..

Anyways, just dropping in to say I adore this strip – I love the changing art styles (even the lower-quality photos have their own charm!), I love the story, and probably most of all I love the characters. I love how I like them sometimes and dislike them at others – just like real people. It’s very rare you find people, not one-dimensional drawings, in webcomics, and you’ve certainly achieved a new level of characterization with Anders Loves Maria. Thanks for providing all of your readers with such great work :)

Yeah, Anders isn’t at his best here, that’s for sure.. but things had better work out for him for Maria and the baby’s sake!
