#234 – Good Luck Anders

Monday, May 18th, 2009

If you were following me on Twitter you would have already seen this comic on Sunday. :)

That is totally my old car in the background. Special bonus points if you can guess what make.

Also,
I have been meaning to plug this but it kept slipping my mind.

My friend and fellow Swede, Niklas Asker, just released his first graphic novel with The Heroes of Comics, Top Shelf! It’s really beautiful (and priced surprisingly low) so you should check it out!

  3. Jo Says:

Time for the baby, I believe Scott.

    I love your work, Rene, and I’ll be heartbroken when this ends ;_;

  4. mrd Says:

The car looks like Skoda 130, but I doubt you had that.

  5. Rene Engström Says:

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

    @mrd No I didn’t have a Skoda 130, I had a Skoda 120.

  6. Andy Says:

    Hurrah, comments are back!
I started reading just before your last hiatus, and it is amazing how much you’ve improved. I love it!

  7. Jonboy Says:

Woohoo! Comic’s back! And the commentbox! :D Loving the art still, and the story! Still not liking Anders, but then who does?! Women probably. Women crazy!

  8. Miranda Says:

Yay! I just read this entire series of comics in about one day! It’s that good! Also, am I the only person who doesn’t hate Anders? I find myself totally disliking Maria.

But I totally love the comic!

    ^_^

  9. Stina Says:

I love both Anders and Maria, but they have communication issues. =(

  10. Hawkeye Says:

I like Anders, but sometimes I just wanna smack the guy! Recently, though, I have had a smidge more sympathy than usual.

  11. Selene Says:

The car looks a bit like a Saab to me :)

  12. Sheep21 Says:

Great to see you back in the swing of things, I cant wait for more Anders Loves Maria!

  13. granmadave Says:

I like all the characters; they’re so real. Anders is trying to be a good guy, but he’s just a dunce sometimes.

Anyway, love the strip. Glad you’re back. Keep up the great work! I’m looking forward to seeing how this all pans out.

(The Skoda’s nice, but I’m more a Volvo man, myself.)

  14. Jonathan Says:

yeah the car looks like a saab to me, too! but i think that’s me projecting, b/c i know it’s a skoda (and i can tell now that i look at a skoda 120).

also, this comic is awesome. i just read the entire archives in one sitting.

  15. babynuchems Says:

Hey! welcome back… i like reading your comic :)
I guess the car looks a little like a “Dacia 1300″ or “Dacia 1310″…
is it? (if it’s not, it could be a Renault – very old model, which was the base for the old Dacia design)

  16. bananayellow Says:

man i love this comic. can’t wait to see how the story unfolds for anders and maria. :3

  17. Devon Says:

Looks like a Saab 900…like my old car…*tear

  18. Myrbard Says:

Jus’ found your comic today, read through the archives in one go. Jus’ couldn’t stop, heh. I’m very interested to see what’s gonna happen next.

  19. Kim Says:

Wow, I just read all of your comic today.
    I am so hooked!
    Can’t wait for more!

  20. Andre Says:

I have just read the whole archives in the last 2 days and i cannot wait to find out what happens with this plot twist :D . also i hope to be your most Northern Canadian fan ^_^

  21. Adam Says:

    That’s a Skoda!!!

Oh GOD that was a long time ago!
We had two of those back in the early 90′s in Hungary before we moved out to the USA. Those cars weren’t bad, but both were fixer-uppers.

Dad pawned them off, along side the Volga with the daimler diesel -POS job, horrible car- , and after came the reign of the toyota corolla 89 :D

  22. MartinJ Says:

Hah! I’m Czech, that’s where the Skoda cars originate from. Recognized it immediately :P
This is one great, great comic, and I hope you make much more. I love your style, it’s very different and soft. And the way your comic is very liberal (adult scenes etc) is in a realistic balance with the storytelling, making it fit in. Good job.

  23. Anamenotchosen Says:

I read the first 200 comics in this series yesterday and only stopped because I had work today. I love this comic…more consistently than Anders loves Maria (Yeah, I like puns too much). I really wish I had seen this site about a month ago, I would have totally come to see you while you were in the states. Anyway, try to stay healthy, I’ve become slightly addicted to your strip. If you keep this up, you’ll edge xkcd as my m/w/f strip.

  24. Colleen Says:

Great to have you back where you belong! Sad the comic is wrapping up, I will relish its last moments! love the twist :D

  25. the flying dutchman Says:

Not only did my dad own a Skoda (several in succession, in fact), he owned the same model in the same color – we used to call it “yellow sahara”…

That was a loooooooooong time ago.
