#173 - Just Little Shit
Friday, July 4th, 2008Jesus I had to cram a lot of dialogue into one page! I should really have broken this up into two pages but no, I am insane and thought 15 panels on an A4 page was a brilliant idea! I think it turned out Ok anyways, but it took some time.
Today is the last day to donate for an original sketch from me, lovingly drawn and sent home to you. Thanks so much everyone that has supported the comic these past 2 weeks. I can’t believe we broke $3000! Insane! I have my work cut out for me in sketches that’s for sure!

Magnolia, I don’t think even Anders is THAT inconsiderate. Or that perverse…she is much younger PLUS a child of his good friend. Besides, I think he really wants Maria back at this point.
Buuuut….it’s just the sort of thing that he might get into, considering his tendency to act before thinking. And the sort of plot twist that makes this comic so wonderfully, well, twisted.

I don’t think Anders is so skeevy as to seduce someone that much younger than him! But who knows, he seems to have poor impulse control.
Also, I bet it must be SO HARD for someone to have like every woman he comes across fall in love with him! Poor Anders, can’t he catch a break?

Actually, assuming Anders has become a bit more self-aware and learned a thing or two about how much havoc he can cause while telling himself that he’s just stumbling around with good intentions, the Lena’s daughter thing could be a way for him to demonstrate that change. As Fiona said, there’s also a bit of a parallel with Bjorn-Maria at that age. Because Anders will be hanging with Lena a bit, and because Lena seems not to put up with his crap as much, hopefully at least some of this stuff will get hashed out with her so he can figure out how to say whatever it is that he really wants to say to Maria at some point.
If Anders is basically not much the wiser for his experiences, of course, it’s also a good chance for him to wreak more emotional destruction while wondering how it all went so wrong despite his better angels.

We don’t really know that the blonde Bjorn was with is Jenny. We also can assume that the Johan is a different one (just like I know 6 people named Steve, maybe Johan is a common name?), because if I recall correctly, Anders didn’t know Maria’s brother until they met when he fled north. (Of course now I have to go look to make sure…)

I gotta say, Just Little Shit was looking cute back when Bjorn and Anders were talking… but then she opened her mouth and exposed her teeth. The teeth make her adorable in an “I identify with this person” way. She’s… kinda nerdy. And shooting for the starts. Good character.

Rene, these are just so wonderful. I actually really like your digital style, too, it’s very clean and elegant, seems to suit your comic well. (I didn’t at all dislike the hand painted stuff, but I think the digital looks very sophisticated.) Great work as always. I sure love your stories.
