#169 - Trouble Finds Him

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

I am posting the first panel because I’m still working on the last ones. They are pretty rich in detail so they are taking some time. A sick, little 2 year old set me back a bit but don’t worry it will be up in it’s entirety in a few hours! :)

Donations keep rolling in and I am so amazed and very touched by this response! Thanks to everyone who keeps donating! You guys are so awesome! The Sketch-A-Thon is running until the 4th of July.

Ooops. Crying 2 year old. Gotta take care of business! :)

Are they waiting for him to pull down his pants? And is that a dust cloud…?

  2. Kira Says:

    I do believe it’s a tree :D
M.f-ing paparazzi D: They annoy ME and I’m just a boring ol’ person

  3. Jason Says:

Oh, a tree! Or a bush! I’m sorry.

  4. Brett Says:

Thankfully I get my check the 3rd of july. Looking forward to the art.

  5. Shuh Says:

No. it is probabaly to represent a cloud bubble that itself represents A DISTANCE. so basically, the camera man is on the phone with the other guy. i think… farely sure

  6. Shuh Says:

oh nvm. its the tree from last strip.. so sorry xD

  7. irrational_moon Says:

    rotten cocksucking media. >=(

  8. Box Brown Says:

2 year old my arse! you got comics to draw!

  9. kaiki Says:

Ack! I thought it was some woman’s massive hair!

  10. Jason Says:

    could just be gas…

  11. Dawnage Says:

I think it’s just him crouching behind a bush/tree. Makes sense for a snooping reporter, yes? Love the comics, Rene!

  12. Joy Says:

The detail is PHENOMENAL. The street, the statue, I’m in love!

  13. Mista J Says:

For Anders there’s only three things that’s for sure: taxes, death and trouble

Loving the new extra detailed comics. Rock!

  14. Eric Merrill Says:

Whhoooooaaaaa at that last panel…and the foreshadowing is scary. :(

  15. grace Says:

oh wow i love the detail in these two recent pages.

  16. Rachel Says:

loving the perspective on that last panel, sooooo PRETTY

  17. neil Says:

It seems like your kids get sick a lot.

    Get them giant plastic bubbles.

  18. Cecilia Says:

That last panel… wow! breathtaking. I do hope the next page is as lovely as this one, altough the plot is not going the lovely way eh?

Hope your kid gets well soon… LEMONS! lots of vitamin c or something, that’s what my mom gave me when i was getting sick as a little girl.

  19. Stan Says:

I sure love the detail in those pages. Gives that Stockholmy feeling and memories - not that I don’t like Cologne, but I want to go to Sweden and/or Stockholm this year and I have, like, 8 days of vacation. Oh, and as an intern virtually no money to spare.

Gonna stop whining now. Love your comic! And all the best to your 2-year-old.

  20. Michiel P Says:

DUN DUN DUN - impending doom! I’m thrilled!

  21. berga Says:

if only they could read this comic, the stories they would have. but that is paradoxical.

    once again wow @ comic

  22. Dain Says:

Great comic Rene, i love the details!

  23. Jason Says:

I need to comment one last time because the detail on the new last panel is exquisite. And really Anders doesn’t need to do anything; Us Weekly always has pictures of celebrities drinking Starbucks and walking to their car. A heated exchange with a pregnant woman will get those guys some money guaranteed.

  24. tomi / jzmz Says:

holy crap. if the computer drawn strips continue to look like this, you should only go back to water colors for flashbacks, dream sequences and the like. i love watching this page.

  25. charchum Says:

    this is truly amazing! i can’t even believe it. send it to the printer today!!! can i pre-order the book? (;
p.s. it’s so jessica abel looking.

  26. Paul Says:

Journalists are soooooo creepy! Love that last panel though. :D

  27. William Says:

Hmm. I have a feeling Tina is up to no good. Don’t really blame her after how Anders treated her, though.

  28. emilyruth Says:

Gosh, these are so beautiful, Rene! Can’t wait to see what happens next.

  29. francisco Says:

wow, some beautiful panels here. that statue is remarkable.

and as jason says, if these papparazzi were worth their salt, they could at least get a shot or two in US weekly’s “celbrities: they’re just like us!” page…. “they eat dinner, and leave a tip!!!”

wait, do people tip in sweden?

  30. Christina Says:

Omg, that last panel is amazing!! I love the detail, its just so beautiful. And the foreshadowing/suspense… aah, its killing me! You are an amazing story-teller.

  31. MistaJ Says:

I wonder if Tina will become involved in this hoopla? What with the comment about the Norrland girl.

  32. Adrian Says:

You know what I hate? When I discover a really cool web comic, spend the entire day reading it off and on while pretending to work, and then catch up with the current strip.

Nothing will beat reading the entire story until now in one big lump, instead of stretching it out over months and years. Oh well, I guess I’m in the same boat as the rest of you, anxiously waiting.

  33. Seth Says:

Hmm judging from Tina’s affection for Anders and her response to him telling her that she couldn’t come with him (*hork*) etc., it would be hard to imagin her feelings and everything was a hoax. To me it seemed pretty ‘real’ and gave me a rl deja-vu.

  34. Wes Says:

Woah, this page is pretty stunning, visually. And yeah - TAKE THAT, SWEDISH CELEBRITIES! Swedish Chef, I’m looking at you!

  35. irrational_moon Says:

    It’s funny. Other people notice the details on the street and statue. The first thing I notice is how well you’ve done the plants… ^^;

    lol horticulture. it changes lives…

    Hurray for plants ^^

  36. Rene Engström Says:

neil: She isn’t even that sick. She had a slight fever and a runny nose one day, but they still don’t want her at preschool. :/ I can’t get any proper work done with these guys at home. At any rate I’ve had a lot of fun playing with them! :)

Next week will be better comic-wise. They will be with their father.

  37. Kisha Says:

I love your strip… yours and Minus…yall are just awesome (you can tell I am a Texan)

  38. T Says:

@ Seth - I don’t think her affection for Anders was fake. In fact, my guess would be that she called them and told them she had videos of him having sex with her but then didn’t/couldn’t deliver (possibly because she felt bad but more likely because Johan wouldn’t give up the cell phone video).

  39. Sid Says:

    Wow
The quality of the art in the recent comics has been jawdropping
    -applauds-

    As for the plot..
Seems as though things are about to get very interesting…
