#161 - The Fucking Idiot
Monday, June 2nd, 2008UPDATE:
Hey everyone. I am very sick still. I have a fever, flu cold something awful. I try to draw comics but I just stare at this page until everything becomes abstract shapes. I’m doing some writing though, because the drugs/fever have me in the silliest of moods ever. I doubt anything I write is salvageable though… Frankly, I’m delirious and I will most likely not recognise what I’m writing right now when I open this page tomorrow. Ha ha! Thanks for your patience.

Thanks so much to Jason Viola for the very excellent Herman the Manatee minicomic and Shrinky Dinks Playset that came today. Such a lovely thing to get in the post! I will put up a proper post in my livejournal where I am shown playing with said Shrinky Dinks once I get some time. It’s really lovely. Please read Jason’s comic, it’s really good. I promise you.

it’s interesting that the abortion was even offered as an option! I’m so used to the US where it’s all hush hush and it’s not an option unless you activley look for a place to get one. it kind of sucks

JennyB, i too was incredibly amused by how Maria is barely visible
all the shortest people in my life are usually also the loudest
Maria seems to be no exception
and as one with an exceptionally tall boyfriend i often feel the need to talk louder and flail my arms about too

at this point, she’s too afraid of failure that she won’t let other ppl tell her that she’s incapable of raising a child.
ugh, it seems the only two remaining characters that aren’t complete idiots are Johan and Bjorn…

For some reason, ever since we’ve found out Maria was pregnant in the past, I’ve been expecting Tina to show up at anytime. It seems like this is nothing more that what a few girls at my high school have gone through and when they did, the preppy, uptight people (Stereotype, I know, but if you saw these girls, you would say the same)lost no time in making their lives a living hell over it.
And I know this must seem like a late thought and out of context, but this has been a thought for a while and I’m too much of a chicken to post. If her family were acting as a foaster family for Maria and Johan, would it have stopped by this time, or during the flash back that was supposed to be a couple years ago and now are they just being neglective over the two people they’re supposed to be taking care of and pretty much let Maria get pregnent?
And one last thing. I like how the last three panels it looks like Bjorn is realizing he’s not one to talk about being an idiot. ^^

Hee. Surron: one of the uptight preps at my school was the one (of many, actually) who got preggers… She kept it and her mom’s raising it.
My favorite teenage mommy from the hallowed halls of wtvl senior high is def. the punk. she had an AWESOME blue mohawk, but her daughter was dressed in really cute, REALLY pink outfits at all times. Super cute. My area has a school for the teen moms, so we don’t usually see the girls who keep their babies unless they come to the main school for art classes…

surron: i’m pretty sure maria and johan are back with their parents at this point. look back to the christmas morning when johan realizes maria isn’t in her bed. he’s holding an ash tray and talking about their parents as if they are in the same house, and several strips before *that*, maria and johan were lurking outside tina’s home, already seeming quite bitter towards her and her “perfect” life.

I found your comic through Girly and read the entire archive in one sitting! Wow your webcomic is beautifully portrayed.. I love how the style changes every so often! The watercolors are lovely. Heheh Maria was such a spitfire in her youth.

I was kind of hoping the Doctor had just fucked up in asking who was MARIA’s father. Not who was the father of her child. I was really rooting for it. So many circumstantial disappointments. I really don’t know how this is going to go…

I think her insane mood swing about the portfolio had more to do with finding out someone she respected was totally sleazy and insincere when they praised her work. I mean, speaking as an artist, that would probably piss me off pretty bad.
But, you know, you can pin it on her being pregnant, if you want.

Maria’s passionate about her art and a sultry girl ridden by puberty, so it’s no surprise that there are moodswings involved, that are made worse by pregnancy hormones uproar.

as an artist as well…i know how that is too. but as a sister of a pregnant woman, i know how those crazy pregnancy hormones are too haha and i am well aware of how situations can be amplified.

I would really love to see an extra with johan trying to rip bjorn´s head off while a bunch of big manly security guards drag him out… or something like that… yesh…
