#158 - Let Me Down

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

I am pretty ill at the moment so forgive me that this is late and looking subpar.

Also, sorry my post is so short and boring. I have some fun stuff to say, just not now.

Oy? Oy is not a good sound.

  2. U. Says:

Maria looks simply cute, when she’s trying to keep her head in one piece :)
And Johan’s eyebrows made me laugh.

Take care, Rene! Fight with your illness, waiting for the fun stuff to come :3

  3. Chuck Says:

    uh-oh….

IS THERE A DOCTOR IN DA HOSE?

  4. Chuck Says:

damn you keyboard, you win again!!!!

  5. katie Says:

whoops! do i sense a pregnancy scare?

  6. Holly Says:

Eh? Did she faint from the sudden change in altitude? I didn’t think Björn was quite *that* tall. :P

Feel better! I’ll look forward to the fun stuff at a later time.

  7. irrational_moon Says:

I hope you get better soon! There’s a nasty cold going around in GA right now too =(

  8. Centipede Damascus Says:

Bjorn makes everything worse! What a jerk!

  9. Tricia Says:

Oh, Maria’s cute! But yeah, that “oy” sounds quite ominous…

    Feel better, Rene! (:

  10. Cherie Says:

Do I see an abortion in the future? Eh?

  11. Shannon M. Says:

I got the impression that this was a flashback to when Maria was in highschool, aka not pregnant yet and no Anders in the picture. So she wouldn’t be pregnant at this point. I could be wrong though…

  12. Alex F. Says:

true, you CAN only get pregnant by one person.

  13. Shaheen Says:

    i believe she exploded.

  14. tnt Says:

i love johan he rocks out loud

  15. suineglrig Says:

nice one, alex f. nice one.

  16. Duke-Thane Says:

What’s the translation of the road sign in panel one? It starts with fart, and that makes me giggle.

  17. Jan-Erik Says:

Farthinder means “speed bump”. It’s the second most amusing Swedish road sign for English readers. “Infart” (car entrance) makes my fiancee giggle like an 8-year-old…

  18. M to the Vizzah Says:

Yeah, I’m having a little trouble following what exactly is going on?

  19. Cherie Says:

    Thanks, Alex. :)

I’m thinking that if she’s pregnant and gets an abortion, this is what Bjorn was referring to when he talked about their “second chance.” It’s pretty clear that this is when Maria was in her last year of high school.

  20. Angel Says:

Why is everyone assuming she’s pregnant? Is it common for pregnant women get incapacitating headaches?

Maybe she just has a headache from crying too much?

  21. John Says:

The road sign says “farthinder” meaning “speed bump”. Those signs are known to amuse anglophones.

  22. Ambrosia Says:

well, pregnancy can cause sudden collapsing - especially if its eptopic and the tube bursts.

  23. berga Says:

Johan facial expressions for the win

  24. NR Says:

You’d think that Maria’s hair going from black and short to brown and long (not to mention Bjorn’s spontaneous hair regrowth) would be enough to alert people to the fact that this is not the present timeline…. It’s a flashback! A flashback!

Anyway. Love the comic! Love your art! And no matter how many people say he’s a jerk, I love good old blunt honest Bjorn the most.

  25. Kira Says:

    JOHAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!
His face is just like “OH NOES D: “

  26. Dain Says:

Great comic! Get well soon Rene!

  27. mohsart Says:

Another Swedish word to learn is “slut” which menas “end”.
So if you see words like “slutbonus” or “slutstation” it’s really not as naughty as you may think :P

  28. Rene Engström Says:

    Or my personal favourite, “slutspurt”.

  29. Jazzy Says:

Man! Farthinder! About the funniest word I know in Swedish, and I know quite a few… When I was travelling in Sweden almost two years ago that work would just crack me up. Farthinder and utfart! Happy memories… Honestly. I have to go to Sweden again really soon… Especially Stockholm!!! *pink heart*

Btw, your comic is freakin’ awesome. Although I am not Swedish, I’ve known some Swedes in my life and I know quite a lot about Swedish culture and language and my knowledge adds to my general great enjoyment from this piece of work. Keep up the underbart jobb!

  30. Jazzy Says:

    *work=word

  31. Jorma Says:

Yeah, when my American relatives were in Sweden for a family reunion, they got a kick out of farthinder. I had never even thought about it before they pointed it out.

  32. Olentzero Says:

It’s not the fart that kills you, it’s the smell.

Wait… I mean: Det är inte farten som döder dig, det är smällen.

  33. Jazzy Says:

    Den Mördande Farten

    (nevermind grammar)

  34. Ivey Says:

Poor Maria. Her life has been a complete Hell from day one, huh?

  35. katie Says:

    lmao @ Alex F
