#150 - Really Hardcore
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008I’m so angry with myself. It wasn’t until I was finished inking that I noticed I inked the wrong side of the paper. Painting this was a chore from beginning to end. Oh well. It could have turned out worse I suppose.
Thanks to Patrick for the help with the English on this one.
Also this was cool, I noticed that Comic Mix did a write up about me writing about SPX and my little video tour of Anders and Maria’s Neighbourhood. To think that my little thoughts are worthy that sort of thing!
Blushy blush blush!

Mine are too! I respect you, Anders!

Bjorn was right in the sense of trouble from Jenny! they’re gonna do it! sweet.
April 29th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Haha! I love Bjorn’s blank expression in the second-to-last panel. You can tell he isn’t sure whether to take Anders seriously or not.
Funnily enough, if he hadn’t demanded it, I would have that was a neat myself. Can’t say I know many people who play claviers
April 30th, 2008 at 12:13 am
Color me ignorant but what are the claviers?
April 30th, 2008 at 12:19 am
neil: Basically it’s a keyboard system. So Anders is trained in playing instruments that require keys, such as pianos, organs, harpischords etc.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:23 am
it so funny to see bjorn and anders just kind of hanging out.
(btw, renee–thank you so much for introducing me to bob hund via your blog–they’re like my new favorite band right now, despite my not understanding a word of swedish.not to mention the enormous amount of hipster cred loving a “foreign” band can bring
)

But weren’t they a couple when they were young? Or did she forgot?
I just discovered this comic by the way, I think it’s made of awesome.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:28 am
cyn derblock: You’re welcome. Bob Hund is basically just the most amazingest ever. They sing in a very localised dialect from Skåne, so it’s not easy to understand them even if you do speak Swedish, but I guess it helps!
They do music in English but it’s not half as great, under the name Bergman Rock. You could try check that out.

Margot: Anders lost his virginity with Jenny, but they never dated.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:49 am
Ha ha ha! I love Anders. He tries so hard to be liked
April 30th, 2008 at 1:35 am
the last panel is priceless!!
April 30th, 2008 at 2:11 am
Rene. GTA is awesome. I am so glad that you are into playing video games :]
April 30th, 2008 at 2:14 am
i love when bjorn makes that ridiculous face. he’s been my favorite character since his introduction… i think because he reminds me of matt sharp for some reason.
April 30th, 2008 at 2:32 am
There is still something odd about the English in panel two. It seems to me that it maybe should read “watch out for Bjorn” and “to try to steal”. Just trying to help, no disrespect. I check this site almost daily. thanks
April 30th, 2008 at 4:59 am
I agree. It should be: “Watch yourself around Björn, Jenny! He has a tendency to try to steal my exes!”
April 30th, 2008 at 5:32 am
They’re totally gonna fight over her attention.
April 30th, 2008 at 6:41 am
Hey — keyboardists can be cool. Herbie Hancock is cool. And hey, what would a synth-pop band be without one?
Not that I’m getting defensive because I’m a classically trained pianist with a well-used edition of the Well-Tempered Clavier sitting just a few feet away from me.
[Though I can’t say I’ve ever heard the term “clavier” outside of a reference to Bach.]
And Ethan: it could also be “watch yourself around Björn” (”with” may also work here)

Wrong side of the paper aside, I think this is the nicest-looking of the watercolor style you’ve posted so far. The lines have smoothed out some, and the colors look very nice. Just thought I would say so.

I don’t know how ‘new’ it is, but i like the new site design, especially the title…For some reason I really like how the i looks in maria.
Also today’s page is lovely.
Also also, I wish I could play GTA ALL DAY D:
April 30th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
ooooh. I play piano.
April 30th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
I loved the video tour!
April 30th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Rene, you write, by far, one of the finest examples of sequential art available. Also, thank you for all of the great suggestions of comics that you like. The link you posted to Patrick’s site has a typo, though. Click here for Chicken Nation!
April 30th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Thanks David!
Also thanks for noticing the mistake in my original post. It should be fixed. Chicken Nation is full of great stuff and should not be missed by anyone with a pair of eyes.

Rene –
I resist your powers of distraction! (…Kind of. I am really enjoying seeing Anders and Bjorn getting along… so cute!
April 30th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Hrm, that last comment didn’t work. The last part should say…
“However…
I still really want to know what happened with Tina!
You can tell me, I promise
”

Love the new header :]

“Classically Trained”
Haha! That is “classic,” despite the cliche. And Bjorn is right; that is indeed hardcore because classical style is hard and .. well, doesn’t have a core, but then again it does, sorta… but that’s too hard to explain X.X
What does “inking on the wrong side of the paper” mean? Forgive my ignorance, but I’m not sure what that means. Could you explain, Miss Rene?
