I love your various experiments with different artwork styles, though your 'standard' style I think still wins overall with me.
But I adore the occasional differently-drawn comic :)

As for pictures for sad children... yes.. that's been one of my favorites for a while :D

This is gonna sound like a total fangirl, but I am in love with the traditional style right now. At this moment they just feel like they're in a sleepy, bright morning.. and I don't know why people keep thinking this feels less personal. I feel using watercolours and pencils way more personal that poking the "bucket" button on the computer to colour something. Then again I've always loved traditional work.

I do have to say, though.. that if you aren't really aiming for the "sleepy bright morning" right now, then I guess that would be a problem. It's fitting right now, but I guess not in the future. But hey, all to experiment! Keep it up!

Regarding the art: In my opinion there was some beautiful Scandinavian jazz/blues feeling over the computer drawn panels, I got a solid vibe of Monica Zetterlund's singing and Jan Johanson's piano play. This feel is not there in the hand-drawn ones, they lack some of the clean, empty "air". The old style truly hit a unique accord that way, that I feel was very fitting for a story set in Sweden. (I could have written an essay about Kuktraesk from just the few landscape panels) This typically Swedish tone is not as obvious in the new style. Now, the hand-drawn style might be better suited for where the story is heading, Just my 0 pence worth of thoughts.

Hi Rene,

I've never posted here before, but I thought I'd give you some feedback on the hand-drawn experiment. I think I like the art (not 100% decided) but I think I'd like it better if you used the same text that you used to.

Hey guys! Don't feel for a nanosecond guilty about giving me criticism. I welcome it. I am sticking with the handpainted for the time-being though. I have, like the above poster stated, a few kinks to work out until it really starts to feel like the ALM universe. I'm testing this stuff live people, I always have since the strip's beginning. It's fun!

I feel bad for writing as a first-timer with criticism, because I really love the comic in general. I do find the hand-drawn to be less personal and less emotional. Some of that is polish type stuff that will come with time (although I'm making a big leap assumption in thinking that you don't draw like this for yourself all the time). For example, I think the visual language for emotions that comes through with the eyes has been lost in the transition, but I'm sure will be found again or reworked as time goes on. In general I find the computer style more polished and clearer in its emotional impact.

There are a couple of things I already like about the new style, like the slightly off-kilter background in panel 1 and the look of the trees in the first panel yesterday. I absolutely support an artist trying something new, stretching their skills in different ways, etc., so on that level I have no criticism at all. It's still a great comic.

I decided to go through every link on the new PfSC link page, and I'm so fucking glad I did. Also, dig the hand drawn style. It looks like a cross between a child's drawing and a New Yorker comic.
