No. Everyone is a good person. And everyone is a horrible person. It totally sucks, but that’s how it is.
I hate it how even in real life, as soon as I start to get to know someone and think they are a good person, they do something really douchebaggy that makes me hate them, but in every other aspect they are a good person, so I can’t decide if OVERALL they’re a good person or not.
I wonder what the relationship is between johann and tina? we know they have a kind of mutual history, but you’d think that since tina’s family took johann and maria in for some time, they’d have more of sibling relationship than a sexual one like tina is suggesting here. unless I’m missing something?
Will I have my head ripped off by the other fanboys/girls (I’d include myself there, in fact) if I point out that for my taste the latest strips go a bit too much into soap territory?
patricia: I bet when they were younger Johan walk in on tina coming out of the shower or something and kept doing that “by accident” and Tina probabily felt some sort of weird power from it.

Johan is admirably loyal to Maria, but he also has a kind of creepy follower vibe at times and was also really horrid to Anders long before anything started (even assuming that it wasn’t still pretty crazy and uncool to do what they did to Tina/Anders that drove events on the night Anders really screwed up). After all, Anders actually somewhat got to where he was because in spite of his general peacefulness he acted in a kind of brave and rash manner when he saw Maria being attacked. He was then essentially called a useless pussy over and over by Johan even before he’d done anything. While just as with everyone else in this story Anders obviously has a lot to apologize for, Johan was awfully crappy to him earlier.
That doesn’t change what’s happened since, of course, or the fact that TIna does seem like she’s also going to do something…rather less than completely kind now. Of course, at this point, both major characters and many of the minor ones have been pushed by events to act pretty rashly and nastily to other folks, so it’s not like Tina’s alone in this.
Didn’t Johan already suggest this idea to Maria when she was flipping out about it? I don’t think Johan would go back on what his sister clearly indicated as a cruel idea.
Also oh god if there is more sex in this sex comic (WITH JOHAN NOOOOoo) I am going to jump a bridge.
….Maybe Johan used Tina first? Or Tina used Johan. It may have even been to the point where the two were in a relationship of some sort and her parents found out and kicked Maria and Johan out because of the not-quite-incest going on. Possibly (because Tina is doing it now and I like patterns) she and Johan were dating on the DL so her parents wouldn’t find out, and then when Johan left her/she made Johan choose between her and Maria, Tina told her parents or left evidence and that led to Johan and Maria having to leave.
Or maybe, Maria turned to Bjorn in the first place because of jealousy that her brother wasn’t paying as much attention to her, or even out of revenge because since she was young, she actually saw Tina as a sister. The deep-seated emotional issues continued because no one really ever came clean with each other, or they did but didn’t really know what to do… If this were the case, it seems more likely Maria wouldn’t come clean because honestly she seems very quiet or shy about herself and her own feelings…
Maybe Tina is just pulling this out of her ass and she is entirely a lunatic!
As for the “Anders is a pussy” comments, I think it’s because in general Johan just disapproves of Anders as a person. Anders is very “blue blood” and bourgeoisie, and Maria’s family is very working class and dysfunctional. It could be a jealousy thing, or even, if he’s very perceptive, that Johan knows Maria hasn’t really opened up to Anders and Anders hasn’t (as far as we’ve seen) shown enough interest to pursue information about her or her family. Probably it’s also because of Maria’s hesitance and embarrassment to tell Anders about her family in general; her excuse to her family might be that Anders wouldn’t be able to take it, thus, “pussy”.
It could also be because Anders got his ass handed to him!!

Speaking as someone with older brothers one of whom has both teased my boyfriends and threatened to beat one particular ex up, I can understand Johan’s behavior. He was mean to Anders, yes, but that might have been a way to see if Anders was good enough for Maria. (I don’t recall Maria ever telling Johan about the incident, but if I’m mistaken please forgive me). So, when Anders slept with Tina the first time, I feel Johan was completely right to kick Anders’ ass. He’s being protective of his little sister as he’s always done.
Of course, everyone here is a little blame. Maria is to blame for letting a childhood grudge (petty or not) stay with her for so long. Johan is to blame for spray-painting Tina’s house (that was him, wasn’t it?). Anders is to blame for sleeping with Tina and generally being an idiot. And Tina is to blame for sleeping with Anders despite the fact that she knew (or thought) that Anders was still with Maria.
Actually, now that I think about it, all of it is Yumi’s fault. If she hadn’t pointed out Ass-Man to Maria, none of this would have happened. Dammit, Yumi.
Genevieve, I think you’re certainly right about those factors playing into how Johan saw Anders. After all, when Maria was complaining about Tina she talked about Anders as if the class thing was not at all minor for her. That said, I understand that Johan has his reasons, but he was still really awful to Anders, reasons or no (and to some extent Maria didn’t really give Anders the support I think he was looking for when Johan and Maria’s father were treating Anders badly). If Anders had been feeling better about himself it might have all passed off like typical banter, but that’s the kind of talk that can have a real edge if someone is already feeling lousy (as I think Anders was).
Anders has actually been getting nothing but physical and emotional ass-kickings off and on for some time now, though I have a feeling that whether they are real or metaphorical the beatings of Anders are going to continue for at least a bit longer before things improve.

I think Tina maybe a girl who is quite calculating, spiteful and spoiled. I think we maybe seeing the real Tina for the first time-and she’s totally recognizable to me!
As for Johan…I have high hopes that he will, out of respect/love for Maria, protect the father of his sister’s baby. Then again-I’m pretty cool with anything Johan does because he is my hero.
I have never been so desperate to be a cartoon character just so that I could kill someone. I despise women like Tina. Who use their bodies to get what they want, and then have the audacity to cry when they get used.

Tina’s left eye (hers) looks like it is upside down. I think the black line is meant to be her nose, but it looks wrong with the eye bulging over like that.

Has anyone else noticed that Tina said she already had a potential buyer? So she’d decided to visit Johan before she’d even left the house. How did she find a buyer so fast otherwise? Tina has been planning this for awhile, but Johan won’t sell Anders down the river. He’s been the protective big brother for so long , and I don’t think hes going to help out Tina… Who Maria already had beef with for whatever reason… Even if Tina does offer to let him bork her.

I’m not so sure the people praising Johan is the awesome will always think so. He has done a few bad things, but those things can be justified in a lot of minds because of his protective feelings for Maria. The thing I love about this comic is that everyone has a good side and a terrible side, it makes them more real, more human. There are no heroes, just people, people that live their lives and occasionally screw up, sometimes in big big ways.
I knew I hated Tina for a good reason, I feel bad for even feeling sorry for her a bit. Hmm, I also wonder if something like this was the reason Johan and Maria stopped living with her family…I can’t wait for tomorrow…EEEeee.

I’m not so sure the people praising Johan is the awesome will always think so. He has done a few bad things, but those things can be justified in a lot of minds because of his protective feelings for Maria. The thing I love about this comic is that everyone has a good side and a terrible side, it makes them more real, more human. There are no heroes, just people, people that live their lives and occasionally screw up, sometimes in big big ways.

I knew I hated Tina for a good reason, I feel bad for even feeling sorry for her a bit. Hmm, I also wonder if something like this was the reason Johan and Maria stopped living with her family…I can’t wait for tomorrow…EEEeee.

It’s funny… In the fourth panel, I mistook Tina’s hair for her mouth, and it made her face look more devious than it actually does.
It’s nice to see that Tina is a deeper character than she’s let on until now.

I won’t be disappointed in Johan if he gives in to temptation and bones Tina.
I will be disappointed if he goes along with the blackmailing because of how it could hurt Maria. In my opinion he seems to honest to do that.
I have really gotten drawn into this little world you write. Good comic!
