Wednesday, January 30th, 2008Before anyone asks, yes this is Tina’s house, and yes it used to be her parents.
Also some less than cool news. I am not going to be updating on weekends. Not that I don’t want to, but my family is twisting my arm and begging for my attention. I guess I better give it to them.

So this could be where most of the Tina-hate comes from. Even if Tina only says a couple of less-than-nice things, that would probably be enough for Maria to hate her…
I started reading this comic today, and I love it now. It’s lovely stuff. While both Maria and Anders do some really stupid things, I can’t help but sympathize with them both. I love how flawed and realistic they are. I also find it interesting how many people have opposing responses to their actions- who is right/wrong isn’t in black and white. I really like that in a comic. I’m so excited to have found this.

I love the luscious brown colors in the last panel. It really shows how perfectly happy everyone is in the house. Johan is still much of the same person to Maria all the while back. I love you comic and I hope you get enough time for your other projects while balance the amazing daily updates!

Strangely sexy! I also love that Johan is peeing on the house. Not because its Tina’s. I hope this isn’t just why Maria dislikes Tina. I Hope shes a total bitch or something so I don’t have to be totally pissed at Maria for being so stupid.
-Also, I don’t side with either of them- neither are right, but I was just way more pissed about the whole anders thing. Blegh.

Man, I take back what I said about Tina being somewhat vindictive about her sleeping with Anders. Each and every one of these characters has such a strong human element that makes them very believable and relatable.

I’m with Ashley on hoping this isn’t the reason Maria is hating on Tina! My home life growing up until my parents divorced was a nightmare but I was never jealous of my peers seemingly perfect lives. Mainly because I believe every family has problems and that there are plenty that were worse than mine. Anyway, I never hated Tina. I thought there was a reasonable explanation on why Tina is so hated by Maria, but if this is it Anders was right in calling her grudge childish and blowing it off.
Still, it didn’t make what he did right though. But I’m not going to take a stance on a issue until I know more.
Great comic Rene! They ARE just too human. I feel like I’m dissecting real people here!

wow. poor maria - she had a tough life and tina had an easier one - or so it appears. i disagree that it’s childish. yeah, i also grew up in a broken home and generally wasn’t jealous of my peers (though sometimes i was!) and i can full-on understand why tina stealing anders would hurt worse than someone else doing the same thing. maybe tina’s parents have passed and she works at a gas station in BFE, but still, she seems like not a very nice person.
i think anders could have been more understanding and dumped the job anyway - it was only a job at a gas station! show a bit of loyalty to your woman - if this ‘tina’ hurt her why does he have to have anything to do with her? he is disloyal to the core - it’s not just the cheating.

I don’t think he is “disloyal” but certainly immature! Getting a job was a pretty big deal for him after all the disapproval from MARIA’S family, and she wasn’t happy for him, which is where he was seeking approval…..
He just assumed that she hated Tina for being pretty or something stupid, and dismissed her–which is immature, but not necessarily disloyal.

Well it’s not so hard Aviv, the story is all written, along with loads of backstory. I “only” have to draw it.

Loyalty?
Anders plans a nice dinner and a night in with Maria. She instead opts to go out drinking so she doesn’t feel ‘old.’ When she gets back, Anders is mad at her… yet he still returns to cover her up with a blanket while she sleep. Seems loyal to Maria, even though she’s upset him and he plans to break-up with her.
They break up, and Anders admits to being tempted to that bartender. And when he gets turned-on by Maria’s text message and is caught in the bathroom and Jenny comes onto him, he turns her down. And is even sweet about it. Seems loyal to Maria.
Then, he gets into a fight to defend Maria from that dickhead. Loyalty to her in the face of getting his scrawny pussy ass kicked.
Because of that, he has to flee to Maria’s home town. Where he’s torn between a rock and a hard place — the family keeps calling him a pussy and he wants to fit in, but Maria (also calling him a pussy) won’t let him fit in. So he does that ‘fart on the table’ thing and Maria gets pissed.
Then, to prove something to himself and the family/Maria, he decides to get a job and feel useful. So he applies at the gas station, with little prior knowledge of Tina other than ’she’s a bitch.’ No history, no knowledge of what she may or may not have done to Tina.
If that’s disloyalty on Ander’s part (up untill the make-out), after all they’ve gone through, loyalty is a painfully high-set bar.
What about Maria? She stood him up to go drinking, got mad at him for trying to fit in with her family, sabotaged his trying to get hired TWICE when he made it clear this was something he really wanted to do, and when he got the job, she went and vandalized Tina’s house to get him fired. What a shining beacon of loyalty Maria is.
They’re both in the wrong and need to grow up for their sakes (I won’t say for the baby’s sake, they need to address first-things-first. They can’t be good parents or even a good couple if they can’t be collected and independent individuals first.). But people keep selling Anders way short and raising Maria on a pedestal. They’ve done their share. Though I feel Maria’s done more harm than Anders — but that’s just me.

Also, teenage-Tina doesn’t have boobs. I’m disappointed ;_; … j/k

The Swedish site that originally hired me has opted to do more of a daily newspaper gag-a-day Anders Loves Maria. We haven’t really started with that until the site does a redesign. There are a couple test strips up only. It is based in the same universe.

I see no reason to stray from this story. It will just be told differently. If you were curious about the strip on the main page, I can tell you that the baby in that strip is not Anders and Maria’s baby. Everything there takes place before the first strip in this archive.
