Hi Sam & Fuzzy readers!

Edit: I have also updated my blog for the first time in Months.

Also recognise Lisa Medin, Östersund’s cartooning celebrity! Plus we are indirectly related!

  1. Freezer Says:

…Which makes me wonder if Anders realizes how much of an utter dick he’s being to Tina? (I would guess “no”).

  2. Starline Says:

He probably doesn’t. But Tina’s not stupid, she could kick him out if she wants to.

  3. Marissa Says:

    Anders: HA!

  4. Marissa Says:

Oh, and like a lot of people have been saying, Anders has no where else to go so where else is he going to make a phone call to Maria? Tina should be gracious to her guest, and give him some privacy when he’s on the phone!

  5. Holly Says:

    Pixies t-shirt? Hott.

  6. Rene Engström Says:

    He’s worn it before too.

  7. humanoftheyear Says:

the last two panels seem like compensation for the whole crazy sexfest that started at the beginning of the year to me, haha. i know it’s petty, but seeing the hurt on anders’ face is so much more gratifying than seeing johan beat anders up.

i still want to know what happened between maria and tina when they were growing up to makes maria hate her so much!

  8. Amber Says:

I love how Anders is realizing that yes, you did potentially push her into the arms of someone else and there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s almost like he’s been stabbed but is starting to catch on that he only stabbed himself.

Poor Tina. Anders is so fucking stupid that he’s not even realizing that he’s hurting Tina just as much, if not more, than he hurt Maria to drive her away in the first place. I hope she kicks him in the nuts or something. In reality though, it was her own dumb-ass fault fucking someone she knew had a pregnant girlfriend.

I care way too much about these characters, damn you Rene!

  9. humanoftheyear Says:

also: augh! how far in the future are we? i can’t tell if maria is still preggers or not. i know all will be revealed soon enough, but i’m so antsy

  10. Amber Says:

I think it’s only been two days since Anders was caught screwing Tina. Maybe three at the most.

  11. Rene Engström Says:

No it’s actually gone a couple of weeks since Maria left for Stockholm.

  12. Annika Says:

I am just wondering, hasn´t he tried to call earlier, and whyyyyyyyy is he staying with Tina. How can hem even think about that if he wants Maria back?? I mean there should be other alternatives, even in Kukträsk. if his mother has money, why not rent something?
He makes me so angry. Even a military tent with a kamin? (don´t know what it is in english)

  13. Rene Engström Says:

Well Tina is nice to him and nice to look at. It’s not hard to put the two together. :) Come on, a nice warm house with a pretty girl or a tent with a kamin for company. Tina is also the closest thing that Anders has to a friend at the moment.

  14. Rene Engström Says:

Maybe I should also add that since he is going home to Stockholm rather soon he doesn’t feel it necessary.

Also he has tried calling Maria constantly. She finally answered.

  15. Nance Says:

    Hi. :)

  16. Taeshi Says:

.. Tina standing around looking “clueless” amuses me for some reason. Of course I’d imagine her to be thinking about things, but her huge eyes just.. amuse me XD Her pose in the first panel is adorable.

I’m surprised people are like “raarrr why do you stay with Tina Anders you idiot rarrrghh” when Maria seems to be in the company of another person. It just seems kind of.. double-standards to me. Yes, Anders and Tina went a little further than Maria and Bjorn (lol banging) but at this point in time they both seem to be with another person as more of a “friend for comfort/company” than anything.. and I wouldn’t blame Anders. I would hate to have him walking around homeless or alone.. no man’s an island, and Tina has been nice and welcoming to him.

What Tina and Maria had was between Tina and Maria, you can’t really hate someone who hasn’t ever treated you bad “:-[” Then again I don’t know what really happened with them.. but Anders wouldn’t have anyone else to turn to now.

    *Sam and Fuzzy reader*

Hi! Lovely comic you have here, love the art and the story line is absorbing!

  18. Totoro Says:

    > Hi Sam & Fuzzy readers!

  19. Brandon Says:

Hello to you too Anders loves Maria author!

I was referred here on the premise of “frighteningly realistic characters”

Sam was not wrong. Not in the least. Keep up the good work

  20. Happypeepeehead Says:

I’m not trying to promote myself here but it reminds of a similar theme I looked at on New Years day in my comic. The shock and fear of an ex lover knowing that someone else is sharing their lover’s bed, even though the ex still is madly in love with them. Oh the easy to relate to emotion! Argh!

I am in so much love with your composition. I wish I could be rich and commission you to redraw that first panel. Maybe a rich reader will bug you to do that (hint!).

  21. Rene Engström Says:

Redraw? What’s wrong with it as it is?

  22. Steve Says:

Yeah, I got here by way of Sam and Fuzzy too, but I must say that I really enjoy this comic. *Bookmark’d*

  23. neil Says:

Dang, Rene, gettin links left and right lately, eh?

  24. katie Says:

am i the only one who doesn’t give a rats ass about tina? she KNEW anders was going out with maria and STILL slept with him with the intention of taking him away from maria. I hope she’s hurt, people like that deserve to be shot. also HA HAHAHAHAHA! at anders. how does it feel? sucks doesn’ t it?

  25. Rene Engström Says:

neil Shhhh! Don’t tell anyone, but it’s cos I draw boobies!

  26. Olga Says:

I LOVE this one. The little bit of jealousy that anders feels makes me feel more balanced about the whole thing. Now I can go on without feeling so heartbroken for some reason. Maybe I’m just seriously messed up? haha.

  27. Christi-Maria Says:

Everyone is getting sick, including me ^^;. Oh well it was, for me, inevitable.
Right now I can’t say how I feel about everyone from today’s strip. It’s been high drama since the first of the month and right now it seems like everything is leveling out…despite of the animosity between our heroine and hero; well, mostly from our heroine really.

I hope you’re feeling a million times better than I am now Rene. I know you were sick earlier.

  28. Vicki Says:

Aww, at least Maria’s willing to talk now. She didn’t pick up and phone and hang up on him. =D Yay Maria!

  29. Happypeepeehead Says:

Redraw as in as a original separate piece for sale (prints of the original aren’t as intimate)

  30. Rene Engström Says:

Aaah ok! :) Now I understand. Well I can do a piece for you for humane prices. Send me an email :)

  31. Damian Says:

-> A Sam and Fuzzy reader

Now also an Anders Loves Maria reader…

Loving the storyline and art style - Very nice work. =]

  32. Phill Says:

Wow, anders is a total dick. He obviously does not really want maria.

    *sam and fuzzy reader
*sighs and adds this to comics reading list.

  33. Ashley Says:

Katie: I still don’t like Tina either, While she doesn’t need to be shot (in my opinion haha) she still should have expected this to come and I also agree with Marissa way up there, why the fuck is she creeeping all over the place while he is trying to be on the phone with his baby mamma?! What a rude-y.

  34. Ashley Says:

PS. I think its fuckin awesome that Bjorn answered the phone, Anders deserved that (even though I do think he is awesome)

  35. Ashley Says:

ALSO- this better not launch anders into bed with tina again, or I might have to scrape out my eyeballs.

  36. lux Says:

My mates boyfriend is AS dumb as this. He’d get a harder smack then Anders though:)

  37. Koosh Koosh! Says:

    Biting satire follows.

OH ANDERS YOU BASTARD HAHAHA YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVED. THIS WILL TEACH YOU TO FUCK WITH A PREGNANT MARIA. HAHAHAHA. AND YOU BETTER NOT LAUNCH BACK INTO BED WITH TINA OR ELSE. oh bjorn yeah he’s okay who cares GRRRR ANDERS.

    Seriously, people.

  38. beka Says:

i REALLY dont think maria is doin anything with bjorn to be honest. she seems the kind of girl that would get along easy/be close/brother-to-sister-like with many guyfriends. but hey, maybe thats the naieve idealism, where you really wanna assume the best of people. on the other hand, in a kind of revenge situation, i think she knows it would make anders feel way worse if she wasnt doing anything sketchy with bjorn (taking the ‘high road’ if you will.) but then again theyre both pretty immature. i could hypthosize abotu these characters for hours!

  39. Ry Says:

Hello. I’m a new reader who was also directed here from Sam and Fuzzy. I really enjoy the characters and story.

I am a bit confused as to why Anders seems to be receiving more than his share of anger from the other comments. It was Maria who initiated the confrontation which sent Anders to the hospital, not to mention the threat of jail time after he recovered. And when his life was completely upended and he tried to make a new start, it was Maria and her brother who tried to sabotage his new job through lies and petty vandalism. Anders wanted to make things right by helping Tina. He was emotionally hurt, and emotionally hurt people do thoughtless things. Should he and Tina have taken it so far? Of course not. Anders is as guilty of causing this situation as any of the characters involved. He is not, however, the sole wrong-doer.

Oh, and let us not forget Maria’s brother beating Anders in the streets. Who would want to try and make amends to a family that acts like that? “I’m sorry!” is hard to say through broken teeth.

  40. Mandiiv Says:

I agree with the sentiment about wanting to know what went on between Tina and Maria — however, I don’t think it means anything to the present. I mean, Tina’s proven to be generally nice and well-mannered (getting drunk and boinking the protagonist aside), and she doesn’t outwardly seem to harbor any ill will to Maria or express the same kind of hate, excpet when provoked by Johan. She hate seems to be mostly one-sided.

I would be really tickled if the Tina-Maria conflict was over something wonderuflly trivial, like stolen crayons. I can just imagine grade-school Maria swearing vengence over a broken crayola — adorable.

But it’s probably something deliciously dramatic. Rene, you fiend! >:| You must take pleasure in our squirming!

… ;-; and dddaawww, my cold little heart melted at Anders in the last panel. Poor sweety. I would make him fat with love and cake. SO MUCH CAKE.

  41. Rosie Says:

oooh it’s good to see Anders squirm, isn’t it? some very insightful comments about this comic, which have expressed what i feel about it much better than i can.

I continue to be entranced and delighted by this comic.

  42. Christi-Maria Says:

So far I agree with what Ry said. Maria’s thoughtlessness and shear immaturity had a helping hand in bring the situation to this point. But so has Anders’ shear immaturity and naiveté. They needed to talk it out in the beginning, mainly on Anders part. She was hurting his feelings before the job/Tina thing, he should have made it directly known instead of doing “Stupid Lover Action No. 31″.

They’re like a real couple. They are so perfect for each other but their stupidity keeps them from resolution!

  43. Ashley Says:

Koosh: I say this assuming neither anders now maria have been having sexual encounters with either of Tina or Bjorn. Since we haven’t seen anything otherwise. If Maria and Bjorn were boning I would be just as pissed.

  44. Melissa Says:

Rene, I always mean to comment and tell how how glad I am that you update everyday now. I really love Anders Loves Maria.

BUT. If Anders and Maria break up, the name of the comic will not prove true. So HAH! Anders and Maria can never break up. I see through your plan.

  45. Bluebird Says:

“I would be really tickled if the Tina-Maria conflict was over something wonderuflly trivial, like stolen crayons. I can just imagine grade-school Maria swearing vengence over a broken crayola — adorable.” -Mandiiv

Ever since TIna’s character was introduced, I have been really curious about what happened between them in their youth to incite such strong feelings in Maria. I have been patiently waiting for the inevitable flashback comic relaying the past story of the Tina - Maria conflict.

HOWEVER, after reading this comment by Mandiiv. I now DON’T want to see a flashback comic telling what happened. I think this is one of those situations where NOT knowing the truth — and therefore letting each person propose their own possible story to explain Maria’s feelings — could be more powerful than having “the one true story” presented.

Based on the previous conversations between Anders and Maria, it sounds as if she hasn’t even told him what really happened.

Although it could be very powerful if the past Tina - Maria story comes out at a key moment in the present story, shedding new light on a situation we THOUGHT we understood, putting a whole new twist on everything.

  46. alex f Says:

don’t listen to bluebird, ren! he/she speaks the bad medicine! tell us what happened asap, it’s a matter of medical urgency for some!!!

  47. Rene Engström Says:

    Fo Sho!

  48. Marissa Says:

I went to Ikea today to get some furniture for my new apartment, and I couldn’t help but to think back at that strip where Tina was explaining her painting to Anders. hehehe.

I got a plate of Swedish meatballs at the cafe when I was there. I’m sure they’re not very authentic, but they were GOOD. And very inexpensive.

  49. Shannon D. Says:

  50. amyable Says:

jesus christ fucking his mother! Please start updating these every hour. To do this you must be a creative genius, jesus. what?

  51. Rene Engström Says:

    Or just insane Ames. :)

  52. Lisa M Says:

Thanks for linking! I felt a sudden rush of victory when I realised my old junior high school bullies would be reading the article, but I kinda forgot about the family. Heh-heh-heh.

And I agree with what many people already said before me - they’re both acting childish, but we love them all the same. I just hope they can work something out. Also, MOAR.

  53. Rene Engström Says:

Lisa: You know Anna-Brita called us first thing! :)

  54. Tinuviel Says:

So Tina’s in love with Anders. I could almost feel sorry for her, except that she clearly gave her heart to someone who’s heart wasn’t free to be given back…

What I find interesting is that Anders never ASKED Maria what her issue with Tina was! He dismissed it immediately as a childish feud, and made her feel that she was in the wrong, which led to her adopting childish strategies to deal with the situation. If he’d just asked her what the grudge was founded on, he would have gained some insight into the scenario. Instead, he immediately dismissed her fears as childish.

If he’d taken the 10 minutes to find out what the real matter was, he would have either occupied the moral high ground, or known why he should avoid Tina like the plague. Instead, he chose to believe that Maria harboring resentment was irrational.

Having been bullied as a child myself, I do feel that ones’ youthful persecutors can have a greater impact on an adult life than those from a sheltered/popular background can’t easily comprehend!

  55. Brandon Says:

Maybe the title ISNT Anders Loves Maria! Maybe Rene is just deluding us into thinking that so that she can push that little broken heart symbol at the top of the page.

MAYBE The title is secretly Anders “Suffers Unbearably Riveting Heartbreak Over” Maria, and Rene just didnt copyright the symbol because she didnt want to be like the artist formerly known as a goofy symbol but was first known as Prince, and then went back to being Prince when he got tired of all his friends making fun of him for his goofy symbol name.

  56. Brandon Says:

    ^^^^^^^^^

It is also highly probable that I say crazy things while Rene is not furiously posting comics at RADICAL GOOD SPEED. The thing about being addicted to heroin is that you always want more, even if you understand you can’t have it.

….Yeah, this comic is a lot like heroin injected directly into my eyeballs. Only with less, you know, dying of overdose and abandonment of family and friends.

  57. Rene Engström Says:

Yeah sorry guys. It’s a little late today. Weekends are tougher for me to get up during the day, especially if you have been drinking yourself silly on a Saturday night. I’m so selfish I know. :)

  58. streever Says:

Wow, it’s really true, what you said about, “Anders ASSUMED that Maria’s feud with Tina was childish”–he was so insecure about his never really working, that he just decided that Maria was siding with her family to hurt him, and that she thought he was a lazy no-gooder too.

He never once asked her or honored what she was feeling. He treated her like an immature little kid, and she rose to the occasion.

    Great insight!!

  59. Brandon Says:

Hahahaha. Look at Rene being all thoughtful and thinking I care if HOMGHOLYCRAPSHEDOESNTUPDATEONTIME.

How dare you have a social life. Didn’t you know you’re a slave to your own creative genius now?

  60. streever Says:

Rene, Do you mean, you are running late with the comic RIGHT NOW–or it is UP late, and I am not seeing it due to…. internets.

No need really to reply, I was just confused :) I’ll be happy if I see a new comic tomorrow. Or Tuesday. Or Wednesday. Pretty much, whenever, you know? :) But I am eager to see the next one ;-)

  61. Rene Engström Says:

New comic in 15 minutes. Just doing the finishing touches.

  62. streever Says:

sorry rene, i wasn’t trying to be pushy, was just confused!!! I’m not a very smart boy, it’s true.

  63. streever Says:

    p.s.

    THANK YOU :)
