#096 - Queue for anything
Monday, January 21st, 2008Sorry about the delay. I have been up with a sick 3 year old all night long.
Btw, Swedes will seriously queue for anything. It’s a culture thing.
The sign Tina is hanging up reads “Help Wanted”.

Gyahaha, I guess we haven’t seen the last of Tina after all. Johan’s poses are SO cool, by the way! I am expecting him to spindash Anders at any moment. *Slapped*
And I’m so sorry to hear about your sick child! I hope he’s feeling better now or at least on the glorious road to recovery.. best wishes!
January 21st, 2008 at 3:18 pm
‘Bout damn time I got first post again! I like the violence. I feel happy inside when Anders gets hurt. Does that make me a bad person? Probably…
January 21st, 2008 at 3:20 pm
SCOOOPED! DAMN YOU TAESHI, you Japanese-monickered glory stealer!!!
January 21st, 2008 at 3:44 pm
on pannel 3 it looks like Johan sticked is hand inside Ander’s chest…
Anders : X_x
January 21st, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Poor Anders! Or maybe not…
Hope your kid gets well soon!
January 21st, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Aw… hope your baby gets better. Meanwhile, awesome punch-out. Have him hit Asa next
January 21st, 2008 at 4:51 pm
My son’s ok really. He just has a slight fever and cough. Super bitchy though.
I might even draw a Spindashing Johan. That would be pretty awesome. He IS Sonic isn’t he?
January 21st, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Aww and to think Anders just recently healed from his last whopping. I hope he doesn’t break someone’s neck by accident again. Do hedgehog goombas even have necks?
January 21st, 2008 at 6:43 pm
The swedes like Queues. I learned something today! Thanks rene.
January 21st, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Ughhh. That girl reminds me of a friend I have…you so much as LOOK at a boy and she’s convinced you two are boyfriend and girlfriend. It is really fucking embarrassing, especially since she says it in front of the whatever boy that may be.
January 21st, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Phew, that’s better. Johan continues to remind me of a grownup/teenage Calvin from Calvin and hobbes..and possibly sonic the hedgehog.
Hope the lil one is feeling better now also.
January 21st, 2008 at 7:44 pm
What the heck is the guy in the fifth panel eating?
January 21st, 2008 at 7:47 pm
It’s what we call a “French HotDog” in Sweden. It’s a long sausage in a baguette type bread, served normally with a garlic dressing, ketchup and mustard.
January 21st, 2008 at 8:54 pm
I really wanna hear someone speak ‘Show Me Your Dick’ bandmate’s line in the 4th panel. I think that could be really excellent with the right execution XD
… me and my silly thoughts.
I’m torn between “NO, I love Anders, don’t hurt him!” and “I LOVE EPIC FIGHTS, KICK THE SHIT OUT OF HIM!!”
… also Spindashing Johan is a must. D:
January 21st, 2008 at 9:19 pm
I feel a little better now that Anders is getting it — I was feeling really bad for Maria.
January 21st, 2008 at 9:38 pm
I don’t want Johan in jail! I’m a sap for brothers defending sisters (I have three brothers)
January 21st, 2008 at 9:56 pm
I also have a protective brother, but I’m not sure I’d like him beating a person senseless, even if it was in my defense.
January 21st, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Looking back at Anders’s last fight, I guess he’s pretty good at defending himself. But here he seams to be thinking “This is the future uncle to my child, and heck, I deserve it“. Makes me go “Aaaaw”
Now I’m curious about Maria and Tina’s past, and what aboute Maria and Björn right now? Damn it! I’m too involved in this comic! Makes the days so much longer.
January 21st, 2008 at 10:03 pm
I’m assuming that a queue means to something like a line. Like waiting in a line. But I’m curious. How does one pronounce queue?
January 21st, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Queue is pronounced like “cue” and it is the order in which you wait for your turn to do something. Is this a Swedish word? I thought it was English. We spell it kö.
January 21st, 2008 at 10:13 pm
okay, Rene… I have been reading you lovely comic since the very beginning and may I say this comic is one i hectically/fanactically check every day.
and second what does the sign say that Tina is hanging up???
January 21st, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Sorry Jamie!
It says “Help Wanted”. The very same sign that was hanging before Anders applied for the job.
January 21st, 2008 at 10:23 pm
It’s an English word too but I don’t think it gets used in the Americas terribly often. Maybe in Canada but not in the US at least. I don’t think I encountered it myself until I started reading more British books and news and so on.
January 21st, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Thanks Rene! I kind of figured that what it said.. But I wasn’t totally positive…
January 21st, 2008 at 11:01 pm
I love how the guy in the forth panel looks like he does not care about the fight whatsoever. He seems so casual about it hehehe.
And Johan continues to be awesome. *hearts*
January 21st, 2008 at 11:07 pm
I guess the beating him senseless part isn’t awesome.
Regular beating up would be ok.. haha!
January 22nd, 2008 at 12:17 am
I’ve heard queue used in British and Australian English, but not so much in American English.
January 22nd, 2008 at 12:33 am
Just a heads-up, I think you forgot to color in Tina’s cheek and forehead in the last panel.
January 22nd, 2008 at 12:39 am
Yeah, ‘Mericans aren’t really down with the queue. I love Johan in the background beating Anders sorry butt, but I also do not want to see him in jails. The closest thing in my life to that is my boyfriends bro beating him up in my defence; good friend indeed.
January 22nd, 2008 at 12:44 am
HOLY HELL! I just went and looked at yesterdays strip again and the new panel is gut wrenching! How horrible of you Rene! But people did need some explaining yesterday, it seemed. I am also very very interested in finding out about Tina and Maria’s history, the daily posts don’t seem like enough. -Obviously you are just making us all greedy. Keep up the good work!
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:13 am
hmm, I’m feeling somewhat like a pendulum. I’ve swung back to feeling sorry for Anders again.
I think a few token bitch slaps would have been enough, Anders is going to (or should) have a lot of horror and guilt to deal with once he realises that his pregnant girlfriend was watching him have sex.
But then again, maybe he wont.
Hope you (and your 3 year old) have caught up on your sleep by now
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:56 am
oh man, i really hate the idea that anders could fall back into tina’s arms for sympathy after being bashed into bits by johan. it is making me very nervous that this could happen and i want to slap tina, so hard.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:15 am
This story progression is really a quality piece of work. It follows that excellent storytelling rule: Create characters people will really care about, and then do terrible things to them. This current situation is especially effective because there’s plenty of insight and sympathy given on why Anders and Johan are at this point, and because of Johan’s nature, there doesn’t appear to be any resolution that doesn’t end with Anders back in the hospital. Top notch stuff.
January 22nd, 2008 at 4:23 am
For the record, Nick, I’ve had this name since I was like thirteen and it was nabbed from a book about an Egyptian cat XD So it was never intended to be japanese! Definitely seems like it, though, I don’t blame you.
(Yes, late response is terribly late)
January 22nd, 2008 at 5:25 am
Johan is pretty badass. I can’t blame him for it.
January 22nd, 2008 at 5:54 am
“Looking back at Anders’s last fight, I guess he’s pretty good at defending himself.”
This is such a misconception we keep seeing
remember, they were clear that Anders landed only 1 blow, and it was pure chance & luck!
I think there is no foreshadowing at all that Anders is a secret kung-fu master. I think really we’ve been shown that he is kind of a sissy & can’t beat anyone up to save his life, except by dumb chance, and then it bites him on the bottom!
As for queue: it is a word here, in America, and I use it. Lots of people use it! I live in a cultural city in the North East though, and I definitely hear/see it more in Canada.
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:31 am
I have never heard anyone over the age of thirty five say queue here in MT. Prolly all that cowboy talk.
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:38 am
In MT people don’t queue, they settle who has the next turn with fisticuffs.
Aslo, Dexter has stomach flu, fuck yes! Expect a later comic Tuesday as well… Sorry friends.
January 22nd, 2008 at 8:10 am
You know what? Maybe this fight is for the best. I DID miss the way Anders looked without 2 black eyes…maybe a broken jaws and 2 crushed grapes will put a skip in my step.
January 22nd, 2008 at 8:21 am
Poor poor Anders…
January 22nd, 2008 at 9:28 am
Ya I feel bad for him only because i came to know him as a nice guy eagered to be a father, but lately he has been acting like an emo ass. Boo-hoo. You guys made fun of me because of my line of work. Boo-hoo You guys don’t think I can do a real job. Boo-hoo I don’t get the job because you guys spray painted my boss’ house.
January 22nd, 2008 at 9:36 am
I once again feel sorry for Anders, but, I guess from Johans point of view he really had it coming, sleeping with Marias old enemy, while she’s pregnant with their child AND she and her brother is watching it happen.
It feels like this is just the beginning, he stil will have to talk to Maria, and THAT is going to an intresting conversation, which I look forward to reading.
January 22nd, 2008 at 9:54 am
I’ve always wondered what Emo meant. I’ve never understood that term. So it basically means “whiny”?
January 22nd, 2008 at 10:18 am
Emo (short for ‘emotional’) is a huge subculture here in America. The typical emo stereotype is a skinny boy who wears super tight pants, eyeliner, and has his hair combed over his eyes. Oh and emos also love to listen to whiny music and then cry about it. So yeah, basically whiny.
January 22nd, 2008 at 10:20 am
They use Emo here in Sweden too but I’ve never really understood it. Maybe I’m too old. It sounds like basically every single teenager ever.
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:47 am
great comic. got linked here from overcompensating, read it from start to finish.
have to agree with the above poster. pregnant women are not known for emotional balance. if ander’s not man enough to deal, he should have kept his dick in his pants. hope he spends some time in the hospital.
ps. yumi should hook up with rivers cuomo in a future comic.
God Damn you half-japanese girls…
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:53 am
Wow. Overcompensating. That’s mindblowing.
January 22nd, 2008 at 3:19 pm
I read Jeffrey Rowlands’ comic “overcompensating.com” every day. Damn him for the link to this one. Now I have another thing to distract me from what I’m supposed to be doing!
Great comic by the way!

Oh God, I know very well how it is to get beaten up and I really feel the pain. Was the little nerdy outsider in the lower grades, the guy who always gets beaten up.
