#086 - 2008-01-11

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Readership has gone up quite a bit since the new year but according to statistics there are no new major incoming links from outside sources. How did you guys find your way to the comic? Just curious.

Also: Miami Rick’s Swedish Toenail Sharpening System! A classic.

  1. Beka Says:

i found you via octopus pie. i love your style, you are very talented rene! im glad i found your work :)

  2. Hec Says:

    Girly comic from Josh Lesnick

  3. Hec Says:

    You should do Slipshine >=)

  4. Rene Engström Says:

What is this slipshine you speak of?

  5. Rene Engström Says:

OK, one google search later. No. No sorry, no slipshine for Rene.

  6. PHDrillSergeant Says:

I got here through Girly. It’s also, coincidentally, how I found Octopus Pie.

  7. smerwin Says:

courtesy of a mr. box brown. i’ve been word-of-mouthing it to my comic-savvy friends since.

  8. meg Says:

    Octopus Pie.

  9. kmh Says:

Growing readership is a normal thing, when you go daily. And drama also do a thing :)

  10. Rene Engström Says:

Yep. The drama helps as does all the sexy times,

  11. Meg Says:

I found it when it was linked by the author/artist of Minus!

  12. Hannah Says:

I found you through John Allison’s blog and it was love at first sight.

  13. Rene Engström Says:

Oh yeaah! I did that drawing of Riley all knocked up by a goblin. When is he gonna get to that story is what I’d like to know!

  14. Dain Says:

I found you via Roostekendoos.nl she has a link from you.

I love your comics, but it’s sad!

  15. haberdashery Says:

octopus pie. Love the work by the way.

  16. Helena Says:

  20. Ally Says:

i mentioned liking willowy guitar-chicks and a mate linked me to the first arc. you’ve got at least one demographic hooked.

  21. Johan Says:

Här är ännu en som hittade hit från John Allison’s blog. Till min stora förtjusning, det här är ju bra!

  22. Rene Engström Says:

Tack Johan! Hoppas att du inte blir bortskrämd pga av din namne heller! :P

  23. lux Says:

I name drop ya when I can, you’re a cool one to know and it’s a good comic to read

  24. Ashley Says:

Octopus pie! I hate this, noooooooo!!!!!

  25. Ashley Says:

Also , sexy times do NOT help, when all i want to do is punch blondie in the face! Argh

  26. Rene Engström Says:

    Ha ha ha!

  27. Helena Says:

Rene; Absolut ! Är helt beroende av din serie, uppskattar verkligen att du har börjat publisera nytt varje dag. =D

  28. Diana Says:

You know, I don’t think I was really mad at Anders until this page. Somehow, drunken, post-kinda-sorta-break-up sex with a woman you’ve only known for a day or two seems like less of a sin than giving her a tender, sober morning after kiss.

Also, I’m pretty sure I got the link for this comic through the Something Awful forums. I’ve been reading since July.

  29. Kelly Says:

I came through Minus, and have now recommended the comic to all the webcomicky peole I know. It’s very lovely indeed.

  30. michael Says:

I found you through Octopus Pie. Yep, yep.

  31. Sandra Says:

Gu så trist att han inte vill visa serien på familjelycka! är inte inne där så mycket längre men det som lockade mig dit var just din serie :)

  32. Keaton Says:

I found this comic through the webcomic thread on SA a couple months ago.

  33. Keaton Says:

..and for some reason it ate the rest of my comment! D: But I was hooked by both the lovely art and story, and continue to enjoy it. Cheers. ♥

  34. Kelsey Says:

Another from Octopus Pie. Most of the comics I read seem to be part of the same little “social network” if you will, so I always notice and check out any unfamiliar ones on their links lists…

  35. malcolm Says:

Hi from Connecticut, USA… I’m really enjoying Anders

  36. hypnobee Says:

I came from Octopus Pie and devoured the entire archive in a single sitting. Fantastic.

  37. Kevin Says:

I think it was one of the folks over at the Koala Wallop forums that linked me; possibly Ryan Armand?

Are there any plans for a print collection? I would buy that in two seconds, no lie.

  38. Chuck Says:

Rene, I came from www.go-girly.com , you are linked there.

Josh is the author of girly, and owner/manager/artist of slipshine (the first is NOT xxx, just the second). Waky and crazy style, good art.

Funny thing, Josh seems only to link quality stuff, or comics that are worth to read… and ALM fits perfectly.

  39. Rosalie Says:

I got it from Minus :)

  40. Rosalie Says:

Oh Rofl, I just saw someone mentioned -my- website Roostekendoos! .. I did indeed make a little banner for you, unfortunately I don’t have time to actually do a lot of webcomics anymore, the website is now supposed to be a portfolio! http://www.roostekendoos.nl

  41. Rene Engström Says:

    Ha cool! :)

  42. Alisa Says:

I actually came back from not reading for a while. ^_^

Also this storyline is so sad, I hope something good comes of it. (I check every day hoping it will be sunshine and rainbows again, haha)

  43. Patrick Says:

I honestly cannot remember where I discovered you. Possibily through del.icio.us or most likely, Octopus Pie.

  44. TuxedoTed Says:

After hearing everyone gush about it for weeks in the S.A. Webcomics Megathread, I finally decided to Google this place up recently. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Thanks for the entertaining comic!

  45. Annabeth Says:

I bit down on a slice of octopus pie and found something hard. I examined it, and discovered it to be a link. Following it’s trail, I found this comic :)

  46. Scott Says:

You posted about going daily over at the American Elf forum. Loving it! I particularly enjoy watching the art evolve as you figure out how you want to do things. Not to mention a compelling story.

    Keep up the good work!

  47. Wark Says:

I came from the Koala Wallop forum as well (the forum representing such comics as Dresdon Codak, Rice Boy, Minus, among others). Though, that was probably about six months ago or so.

  48. meredith Says:

Rene, your comic has so many hooks. People come for the title and stay for the artwork! And later stay for the writing.

  49. Amanda Says:

Octopus Pie, I think, a few months ago. And I totally hate Anders right now.

  50. Aviv Says:

i got here via octopus pie, like (almost) everybody else, it seems

…but how did i get to octopus pie? i can’t go that far back in time, i guess

  51. Rene Engström Says:

Yeah totally. Thanks Mer for linking to me and bringing me all these readers! :)

  52. David Says:

Via the American Elf forums a few months ago.

  53. Amber Says:

Oh my…this story is breaking my heart. What is it about the human mind that we can become emotionally reactive to the imaginary actions of characters that exist only in a book, film, or comic strip?

I haven`t felt this way about something since “6 Feet Under'’ went off the air.

    Please make it all better!…sniff

  54. Koosh Koosh! Says:

From SomethingAwful and the delightful avatar there (you know the one).

  55. GG Says:

Questionable Content -> Octopus Pie -> Anders Lobes Maria

  56. TheKarpuk Says:

I’m pretty sure I got here from Octopus Pie, though I know I read a couple different webcomics where you’ve been recommended.

  57. Diana Says:

    @Koosh Koosh!

Haha, my avatars are legend, apparently.

  58. gem Says:

found my way from questionable content > octopus pie > here.

and im glad i have, its such a pleasing comic.

    :)

  59. Laume Says:

    go-girly.com… and kiwisbybeat (minus)
Started a little before the new year (12-12-2007). Not my favorite art style, but the story is good. (story>=art in my opinion) Looking forward to the next page. (^^)b

Oh yeah, Seattle area, washington, usa.

  60. Mallory Says:

    Minus!

  61. madli Says:

if i didn’t get here through Questionable Content, then probably through Octopus Pie, but I highly doubt it. Either way I’m glad I’m here and staying.

  62. Rene Engström Says:

To my knowledge I have never been linked by Questionable Content. I think I’d definately feel that link. :)

  63. stereophonic Says:

    Dumbrella. WOOT.

  64. GeorgeR Says:

Octopus Pie, Girly, John Allison, And Minus along with the Webcomics Megathread of the Something Awful forum.

I sorta stumbled over links/mention to the comic all in the same few days and just said screw it, dove into the archives and read it all in one night. I love it to death, but damn if it isn’t a knife in the ol heart at times.

Which causes me to love it even more.

  65. Taeshi Says:

Neil (KooshKoosh, not the other Neil) recommended this comic to me via AIM.. and I’ve plowed through it all in one sitting. I seriously adore the style that’s developed overtime and how.. experimental it seems! Delicious eye-candy.

    It’s been a while since a comic has gotten me hooked and just ITCHING for the next page.. keep it up! I hope the daily posting isn’t stressing you out too much! That’s quite a feat ;.;

Also maaaannn this new arc is so addictive despite me waving an angry fist at Anders.. funny how my feelings ping-ponged with finding irritation in Maria’s childishness.. to fury at Anders for cheating “:-[” This really is a complicated dilemma and I sort of think it’s cool how there’s no “straight answer” as to who to blame or what.. they both are at fault, etc.. it’s really all up to debate and that makes this comic really interesting to talk about with other people!

.. I totally must stop flooding your comment with silly yammering, keep it up!

  66. Rene Engström Says:

Flood away Taeshi! I like that people discuss the plot!

  67. Happypeepeehead Says:

Met you at James’ forum and started really exploring your stuff after your James Kochalka dream #2.

  68. Ranluka Says:

I love your Comic… but shouldn’t she be facing the other way?

  69. Rene Engström Says:

    I don’t get it?

  70. Tinuviel Says:

Anette from www.nutandbee.com linked to you in her blog.
    :)

  71. B Says:

    Found you through Overcompensating.

  72. Bobert Says:

I came from the afore mentioned SA Megathread a few months ago, but you’ve also been linked from Sam and Fuzzy too. I do believe you’ve gone viral at this point, people have been talking abut this everywhere it seems.

Love the comic by the way, I don’t think I’ve commented before.

  73. lord_nougat Says:

    Another from Overcompensating.

  74. Pete Says:

I found this through the link from Sam and Fuzzy, and am much of the way through and will be finishing this in one sitting even though I should have been asleep half an hour ago :)

  75. Amake Says:

Another from Octo-pie. A few days later than most I suppose.

  76. Katie Says:

Link from Sam And Fuzzy. Been going through the archives in one sitting and am being told to do others things. Being yelled at for not doing said other things because I am reading archives.

  77. Tadhg Ryan Says:

    Hey,
    Like the comic, very entertaining,
Just said id answer ur question, i saw it on sam and fuzzy comic, sam logan did a guest strip for you.

  78. Chester Says:

Hi! I was refraining from commnets ’till catching up with the archives, but, just to register, I’m from Brazil, and got here via Girly also. Cheers!

  79. Mitsik Says:

Jeph Jacques’ Livejournal. Anders Loves Maria is GREAT. >_

  80. Adams Says:

I found through sam and fuzzy.

and no I do not care that my comment is 6 months late

  81. Fiona Says:

    GIRLY

    :D

  82. Jeejee Says:

I found your awesome comic from Questionable COntent.

  83. Steve Says:

Also from QC. Beautiful artwork btw.

  84. Renee Says:

I found my way via QC. ;) I just had to check it out and now I am hooked!

  85. Sarah Says:

Another from QC.. in case you still care 6 months later haha

LOVE this comic.. and thinking about reading the entire thing tonight :)

It also surprises me how much I sympathize with poor Maria.. I kind of feel like Anders doesn’t really love Maria that much..

  86. Andrew Says:

Via your guest strip in Questionable Content. The combination of breasts, humor, insight into characters, balance between visual simplicity and worthwhile detail, effective use of pop-culture references, insurpassable conveyance of emotion*, and dialogue that says a lot without filling up entire panels with speech-bubbles … that gets me every time ;) What can I say, I’m a simple man. =)

    * I’d say your work is on par with Strangers In Paradise. I’m consistently amazed how well you show characters’ feelings and how much you can evoke from your readers.

  87. Sid Says:

Yet another from the QC guest strip :P

  88. Betwyn Says:

another from the QC guest strip. And I had to chuckle at your earlier comment (which was, of course, made months before said guest strip)

“To my knowledge I have never been linked by Questionable Content. I think I’d definately feel that link.”

  89. Stephanie Says:

Ananth from Applegeeks linked you. I love this comic :]

  90. Preston Davis Says:

I found you through your guest comic on Questionable Content. At first, I came for the nudity. Now, though, I’m hooked on the story.

  91. Tristan Says:

i got linked here from CAD

    awesome comic BTW!!

  92. Mike Says:

I got here from Questionable Content too (another awesome comic). Totally hooked now!

  93. nancy Says:

i found it through octupus pie.

  94. Hotsnap Says:

Someone whose comic I now read did a guest strip on QC which I also read

  95. Walter Hunt Says:

Yet another who came here because of Hipster Batman (Questionable Comic guest stip).

  96. Felipe Says:

    I’m from Brazil here.

Now I’m not sure how I got here. I had your comic with a bookmark for a few weeks and now I’m reading it. I think I got the link from a webcomic by Dylan Meconis or from a website I found there (maybe a blog or something). Not that I’m a big reader of Family Man (comic mentioned), thing is, I really like Dicebox and Dicebox leads there. If you don’t know Dicebox, you should.

By the way, I really like how your comic is not prude about some real life matters.

  97. Felipe Says:

OH! I think I found you through Octopus Pie perhaps.
    I really like good webcomics…
