*gulp* “oh shit!”

EDIT: Obs! Björn is not sniffing her hair, he is kissing her in a friendly, comforting way. It says “puss” there, which is Swedish for kiss. :)

Oh man. This is a really upsetting page too. I feel for her so bad.

  2. michael Says:

:( aw man. i hope this gets better.

  3. Dain Says:

    Heartbreaking :(

  4. Rene Engström Says:

Oh btw, in the 3rd panel it says “puss” which is Swedish for “kiss”.

  5. Alexander Says:

oooooh ^^ I thought it was some kind of ’scratching’ sound!! now it makes much more sense for me!

  6. Annika Says:

sooo sad. Do you have the whole story ready in your head? How far along have you done?

  7. Rene Engström Says:

It’s all pre-arranged. I’ve had to do some re-writing, but it’s all down on paper now. Even though Anders and Maria are broken up, a lot of the original story remains (the band for example). The original story was written over a year ago, but I feel it is even stronger now. In the original story Anders and Maria did have problems at this point and Tina was involved, it just never went this far.

  8. Rene Engström Says:

Also by your name I assume you are from Sweden. I don’t get many Swedish posters. A shy lot the Swedes. Välkommen!

  9. Dain Says:

Here you have a fan from the Netherlands :)

  10. Rene Engström Says:

:) What a multi-cultural bunch we are! I think Dutch and Swedish are so similar. I usually have little problem understanding what I’m reading in newspapers anyways. With a little guess-work and imagination that is.

  11. Karolina Says:

And here from Poland;) great comic!

  12. Sandra Says:

From Sweden to, but i suck on writing in english.
Så det blir på svenska, läser här varjedag, är beroende av din serie, så himmla bra! Heja dig!

  13. Rene Engström Says:

Cool. Hello hello! But I’ll be honest with you, I can’t understand a dang word of Polish! ;) Welcome!

  14. Rene Engström Says:

Svenska går jätte bra Sandra! :) Kul att du tycker så mycket om serien!

  15. kmh Says:

Rene, here you go: kiss = cmok

    :)

  16. Rene Engström Says:

What a good word for kiss! Hurray for Polish kisses! :) We also have kyss for kiss. Puss is more like a “peck” or something.

  17. Susann Says:

hi from germany! your comic makes my day :)

  18. Ally Says:

i’m so glad that was a kiss. i thought he was sniffing her hair.

  19. Qwil man Says:

I’m american so I read this comic while getting fat and punching things that don’t deserve it! Keep up the great comic!

  20. Rene Engström Says:

You crazy kids with all your crazy countries and cultures!

  21. neil Says:

I’m American, supposedly moving sometime in the future though.

  22. Chuck Says:

I’m from Chile, and now I feel all alone :(

P.S: the last 4 panels.. I have done that in a very similar situation… a few days later I realized I liked the girl… D:

  23. Rene Engström Says:

Ah cool! A big warm welcome Chuck! Nice to know people in S.America are taking the time to read my comic!

  24. Chris Says:

Thanks for clearing up the hair smelling thing, not that hair smelling is entirely terrible.

  25. M V Says:

    Los Angeles representing.

I’m loving the current story as I have no idea where it’s going, which is always good.

  26. Ashley Says:

Montana up in this. Since the majority of you aren’t from America you might know where that is, most Americans don’t. Blegh, they need to make up; even though things are shitty, all this “rewriting the story” makes me nervous!

  27. Diana Says:

I wonder how well these two will be able to resolve this terrible rift. I know they’ll have to do it somehow, for the sake of the baby if nothing else, but the method and the degree of the reconciliation is the big question. Anders is already regretting his actions, it looks like, but I dread his reaction when he realizes he may well and truly have lost Maria, even though he had wanted to break it off after the whole vandalism thing. And there’s Björn and Tina, both wildcards. Not sure about either of their intentions. Björn moreso. I love fictional knots of human emotions. It’s always really intriguing.

Also, I’m a big, fat adopted Minnesotan checking in here. It’s ALMOST like being Canadian, right?

  28. Rene Engström Says:

Diana: It’s almost as good as being Swedish as well! ;)

  29. Rene Engström Says:

Ashley: I know of Montana. Mountains and cowboys spring to mind.

  30. Ashley Says:

Of course they do! Haha, I drive a car to work and school, I promise. Also, I have never lived with cows or other livestock but my friend Brianna once milked a goat at the fair.

  31. Ashley Says:

Oh ps, I have my facebook picture as Anders, hope you don’t mind?

  32. Rene Engström Says:

Not at all! I’m flattered. Can I see? :)

  33. Ashley Says:

of course! Here, have a link! http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=650900509

  34. Annika Says:

Ursprungligen hittade jag dig i jämtlandstråden på FL, då jag är gammal jämtländska. har följt serien från början, den är underbar, men nu är det lite vääääl eländigt tycker jag

    ;-)

  35. Happypeepeehead Says:

Ah geez. The look on Anders’ face. I’m pretty sure I’ve had that look from a similar stupid action.

  36. neil Says:

“Ashley: I know of Montana. Mountains and cowboys spring to mind.”

    Exactly right.

Ashley: Could be worse, I’m in virginia, we have nothing but beach. And the beach doesn’t have waves. And most days it doesn’t have sun either.

  37. Rosie Says:

    Greetings from down under :D

the panels on this page are really emotive. I love the art of this comic because it really brings across the feelings in the scene. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s update!

  38. Lisa M Says:

Wow. This comic is getting better and better. Thought I’d drop you a line (or a comment, yah) since I’m not sure if I ever told you exactly how deeply impressed I am by your work.
Daily updates are AWESOME. For real!

Also; IS that a fictional Brunflo?

  39. Warlach Says:

Hi from Poland, hi from Germany… This is like a damn Eurovision.

Well, hi from Australia at least. Love your stuff Rene, beautiful work and great writing. I read a LOT of webcomics/comics in general, and ALM is definitely one of my favourites :)

  40. Rene Engström Says:

    Sweden 12 points….

Lisa: uh näää. vaddå? No it’s a fictive Fittträsk. My mum’s family is from Långträsk near Piteå so Kukträsk is probably closer to that.

Annika: Livet kan vara lite väl eländig ibland också.

  41. patricia Says:

polish-born girl living in america here :) love your comic, rene, though this last story arc is so heartbreaking. keep it up!

  42. Ashley Says:

Aw man, no, I totally love Montana, its awesome here and really beautiful! Sorry about the VA! Funny thing about the cowboy stuff is there is totally a rodeo tomorrow night, haha. Not my kind of fun though. Congrats on the wide spread fan-base Rene! : ]

  43. AMC Says:

Hey! I’m Chilean, too! I was born and lived in Santiago for 6 years :)

Also…I feel so bad for both of them. The anticipation is eating away at me!

  44. Rene Engström Says:

So you guys from all over the world, are you finding it easy to read a comic that weighs heavy on the Swedish content? Or do some of the mannerisms and references make you go all wtf?

  45. ali Says:

Rene, your comic is one of my favorites. I’m an American — about the Swedish content… I really like it. It’s part of what makes your comic so distinctive, I think, that you keep a strong cultural flavor. I read a million webcomics that feel “american”, or similar, yours feels like it’s from a different country. It’s part of the charm. Maybe that’s just me, because I’m not from that area? Also, I like that sometimes I have to read the comic, then read the newspost, then read the comic again. It’s like unpacking a present!

  46. Komiyan Says:

British here.. so obviously drinking tea while reading :) Love the comic, the last few pages have really messed with my emotions, which shows that your writing must be great! Keep up the good work!

  47. Rene Engström Says:

    Mmm tea… good idea.

  48. Tinuviel Says:

And reading from New Zealand down here!

I love the unique flavour the Swedish content gives to the strip - it also seems to fit very comfortably with your gorgeous art style.

  49. Sarah Says:

And you have at least one Canadian reader! :)

    Very sweet comic. Completely endearing.

  50. Fleen: Your Favorite Faux-Muckrakers Since 2005 » I Gotta Coordinate Things With Anne Better Says:

[…] Yeah, that’s Hollywood’s version of romance; this is Sweden — we’ve only covered two days of story, and life hasn’t begun to get complicated yet. A brush with the law sends the couple to the far north, to Maria’s family, who treat Anders poorly (’cause let’s face it, he’s a pussy). Old crushes and old enemies enter, all concerned make bad decisions, and we’re reminded that nobody can hurt us as much as somebody you know loves you — but doesn’t like you very much right now. […]

  51. Voortman Says:

“So you guys from all over the world, are you finding it easy to read a comic that weighs heavy on the Swedish content? Or do some of the mannerisms and references make you go all wtf?”
Emotions are very cross-cultural, and you’re very good at emotions, so don’t worry about it!

Besides, Swedish words sometimes remind me of the German I (used to) know. Oh, Pennsylvania, USA here. …which means I’m here spending most of my time on being entertained, meanwhile forcing my opinions upon strangers. That’s how we do it in the ‘States, as any reader of Overcompensating would know. I am SO glad that awesome hillbilly linked to your webcomic :)

  52. Antsan Says:

Here from Germany, born in the GDR. A few month before the wall broke down.

I love swedish content. Maybe it’s a little bit cliché, but I am a huge fan of Astrid Lindgren and I think something about the feeling of your comic and her stories is similar.

  53. Mike Says:

Man I am British and I have not had a cup of tea in years (I’m a coffee fella! I know, shocking!) but you caught me with one, asking that, so now I look all stereotypical! Now I’ve gotta go find my monocle and call some people ruffians…

I think the Swedish influences are really interesting and are way more a benefit than a hinderance to the comic. Keep up the good work!

  54. Kate Says:

Hey there I got here from QC after that guest comic you did and I must say your comic is amazing. You can add a Russian born in the USSR that lives in France and speaks Mexican to your list of multinational fans.

Strangely enough, your comics do remind me of Astrid Lindgren (like Antsan). I guess that being from the same generation and similar background, we (I at least) really finally get the feel of all those Swedish kitchens, forests, and cinnamon buns we’ve read about in Karlsson or The Brothers Lionheart. Keep up the good work. You’ve got me hooked.

  55. Sid Says:

    Haha..
I’ll jump on the bandwagon here..
From America- born in Maine, currently live in New York.
Probably live in Nova Scotia or Ontario in Canada soon though :P

  56. Pedro Says:

From Brazil, and loving your comic. Got here from Applegeeks (considering all the people bumping the comments in the archives the last two days, I reckon I’m not the only one).

  57. Walter Hunt Says:

From Seattle, Washington (although I lived in Livingston, Montana for quite a while).
Love the comic, best thing on the web.

  58. Jacob Lantz Says:

considering a few americans just said what state they’re from, assuming the whole world knows what a “montana” is, I’m just gonna say that I’m a proud Skåning, and assume that you will all know where I hail from.

(ps, I happen to like world geography, and therefor know all 50 states…but still, adding “USA” at the end would be a good idea :p)
