Monday, December 3rd, 2007I have been sitting in front of the computer like an idiot until I could barely see straight. Today’s comic is brought to you directly from my drafting table. It’s not as detailed but it is extremely liberating!

still looks good.

Thanks!

I can sense the liberation you must have felt while doing this. Diggin’ the brush work and monochromatic scheme.
Also, a LOL moment in the last panel.
Hooray!

I’m not so impressed with the brushwork myself. I should have done this on A3 size but I was fresh out so I had to settle with A4. Thus wider shakier strokes. Oh well. It was loads of fun.
Yeah the last panel gave me an audible giggle. Do you think I torture Anders too much? He’s just SO easy to pick on.

It looks great, actually.

Yeah, compared to the vector work you usually do, the brushwork is a little shakey in spots, but I hardly think it’s a deal breaker. But then I’m a big fan of Eddie Campbell’s painterly, impressionistic approach to comics.
Was it quicker doing the comic this way than the way you normally do it?
And if it brings the laughs, torture away!

This style works great. It seems a lot fresher.

Just discovered this great comic. The sepia tone lends itself well, because of the time of year and the lack of leaves on the trees.

I love it! The vector style is great too, but it’s nice to see your brushes, Rene!

Thanks guys! Brushing for me goes a heck of a lot faster if I’m “in the zone”. I dunno. I don’t ever get hung up on loads of details, which is so easy for me with vectors. I actually started this comic with the intention to learn vectors, which was very hard for me, and to break away from traditional brushing.

Who, ‘part from me, wouldn’t mind if the comic was predominately done in this style?
Anders has Dilbert tie.

I’m going to start saying ‘It’s come to my attention that you are a TOTAL BITCH.
I like it!

I kind of like the shaky strokes, the a4 is kind of working for you. It adds a bit of… hmm… I guess character to the comic by making it somewhat flawed looking.

[…] Yeah, that’s Hollywood’s version of romance; this is Sweden — we’ve only covered two days of story, and life hasn’t begun to get complicated yet. A brush with the law sends the couple to the far north, to Maria’s family, who treat Anders poorly (’cause let’s face it, he’s a pussy). Old crushes and old enemies enter, all concerned make bad decisions, and we’re reminded that nobody can hurt us as much as somebody you know loves you — but doesn’t like you very much right now. […]
