Monday, July 2nd, 2007OK I need feedback from you all. Please let me know what you think of today’s comic. It is done by hand this time, inking with a brush and everything. I’m planning on increasing update frequency to at least 3/week once my daughter is settled into preschool, which should be by the end of the summer. The “by hand” comics are done a lot faster than the ones I do on the computer which take a lot of time, due to the intense amount of details that I throw in. So what’s better fewer updates and more details to environments or more frequent updates and a more traditional style of comic? Let me know either here or you can email me at info(at)reneengstrom(dot)com.
Thanks!
Also I did a piece of scarygoround fan art that I would like to share. I think it turned out ok.
EDIT: Also I do not approve of Maria’s actions in this comic so please don’t do that sort of thing to people, no matter how promiscious… promiscuos… pro… slutty they are.

I liked today’s comic, but the computer ones look really awesome. I especially liked the style and dreamy quality of the forest/birds/lumberjack sequence a month or so ago.
Why not do one computer comic per week with two hand drawn editions? It would almost be like newspaper comics that are black and white all week and then full color in the Sunday paper.

I like this art work a lot. It hasn’t really lost much but gained more… fluidity? Is that a word?
Honestly, do whatever is easiest for you at the time. If you can get computer-created comics in, go for it! If not, this will please us as well.
It’s hard to decide whether I would like more frequent or less frequent updates because on the one hand I would like to be able to visit here more often but on the other hand I would miss the beautiful details you add in the background. So… this comment was pretty much a waste of your time. Sorry!

I found your comic through scarygoround.com and just had to read your all of your comics, there amazing…
I’m trying to start a comic of my own with a friend of mine so I’m trying to get as many inspirations as possible…
Your comic is awesome and I love what you’ve done so far…
I think more content is always good, but i like the thinner lines from your previous comics…
keep up the good work, you’ve made a fan out of me

I like the brushed line work (though I’d like to see it with color), but I wouldn’t give up the detail-rich backgrounds for it. This is probably the first time I’ve ever voted for digital over traditional, but I think if you switched over to a less-detail-more-fluidity-traditional-style you’d be playing against your strengths.

I’m curious to see the hand drawn experiment continue a little while longer. There’s nothing saying it has to stay the same stylistically throughout the entire story.

I really like the backgrounds in your other strips, and this strip seemed a little rushed without them. I would rather have less detailed strips, than more simple strips.

oh my gosh, i had to register so i could throw in my $0.02. renee, your comic is my favorite one on the whole internet these days, and i’m way into the plot, so i’d love to see you update more often… but as much as i like the particular style of this hand-drawn one, the art is so gorgeous in the computer-drawn comics, i would never want to give it up. so i say, both! like misterinvisible said, only i bet 2x hand-drawn plus 1x computer would be a lot to accomplish in one week. do whatever feels right at the time for you, but please keep both styles around!

I know I’m way too late for this to say anything, but whatever the next strip in the archive is, this is beautiful. I hope you continued in this style.
