#002 - 2006-09-18

Monday, September 18th, 2006

I had a quarter-life crisis just before I turned 25. I realised then that I was soon closer to 30 than 20 and it was pretty terrifying. I had all these preconcieved notions about 30-somethings being boring, old farts that had no interests and spent their evenings listening to Van Morrison softly in the background while doing crosswords. I turn 30 next year and I now know that’s a big load of pants (unless Van Morrison and crosswords are your thing, that is also cool).

When I turned 30, I asked my (then) wife, “So do I look older?” She laughed: “You’ve looked thirty since I’ve known you.”

I was never too young to be a tiresome old fart, and (at 46) I’m still not too old to be immature.

I can’t REALLY relate, still being in highschool, though I feel like I haven’t gotten enough done in the years that I’ve had.

    Life is too short.

[…] And the webcomic is why I don’t think I like Rene Engström. It’s a romantic non-comedy, about Anders (photographer, in love with the idea of being in love, with a tabloid-fodder famous mom) and his girlfriend Maria (younger, less focused, in love with Anders but still able to get pissed at him when he’s an asshole). They have a comfortable relationship together when Anders drops a bombshell: he thinks they should have a baby. Maria recoils, an old girlfriend comes into the picture, Anders feels the tug of temptation, and Maria gets pregnant inadvertantly. It’s messy, they’re confused, but love wins out in the end. Fade to credits. […]

Hvorfor kan du ikke bare tegne de nye figurene sånn her?

MARY: You haven’t gotten much done… because you’re still in high school.

It’s the first 2 to 6 years AFTER YOU GRADUATE that will really make or break you in terms of “feeling like you’ve gotten things done.” Rule One: Don’t major in communications, theater, or film…. unless you are going to a really really good school and you work your ass off…. >_>
    And that’s what I learned.

Quarter life crises are scary. I am having one now. And I turn 25 in July.
